Ditt fokus för denna 3-timmars historia turné är de viktigaste platserna i Berlins 1900- och 1900-talets judiska historia och distrikten Spandauer Vorstadt och Scheunenviertel (känd som "Barnkvarteret") i Berlin-Mitte. Ta i den fridfulla avenyn Oranienburger Straße, där den magnifika nya synagogan byggdes 1866. Lär dig inte bara om konflikterna mellan tyska judar och icke-judar utan av spänningar mellan den mest assimilerade tyska juden och de så kallade östliga judarna ("Ostjuden ') som fyllde Berlin på 1920-talet efter att ha flyktat anti-judiskt våld i sina hemländer.

Den nya synagogans storslagna arkitektur symboliserade och hyllade judisk assimilering i Tyskland på 1800-talet. Det är alltså en av de mest rörliga platserna på vår promenad. Idag är det hem för det judiska samfundet som återupplivas i Berlin,
Auguststrasse var en gång levande med judiska institutioner, för bara ett exempel den judiska flickskolan som genomfördes mellan 1927 och 1928. Skolbyggnaden, belägen på Auguststraße 11-13, är ett historiskt monument byggt av arkitekten Alexander Beer, kännetecknat av New Objectivity-stilen. Idag är det hem till en utställningshall och ett kafé som är väl värda ett besök.
En pulserande judisk gemenskap utvecklades runt Hackescher Markt, där vi tar in den graciösa arkitekturen och berättelserna om det tyska judiska livet på Spandauer Vorstadt och Scheunenviertel (känd som "Ladukvarteret") i Berlin-Mitte.
Det rörliga minnesmärket är tillägnat de ihållande protestdemonstrationer av icke-judiska fruar och släktingar till judiska män som hade arresterats av nazisterna och utsatts för utvisning.
Designad av arkitekten Peter Eisenman, kommer du att få en personlig upplevelse av att passera genom den nykter labyrinten av 2711 betongplattor som är avsedda att representera Tysklands erkännande av Förintelsen.

Outstanding academic overview of local Jewish history. Martin was wonderfully honest and knowledgeable. We saw sites and buildings related to Berlin's past Jewish population that we cou never have known. Remarkable to hear Jewish history interpreted by a German native and academic. Very forthright presentation.

This tour with forrest was a very good experience in Berlin! Forrest is a: -walking encyclopedia -great story teller -very social And he points out things you want to know and see that we wouldnt have noticed without him!
This was an outstanding tour of Jewish history in Berlin. Our guide, Ronan, was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He shared fascinating stories going back in history to the Jewish people’s arrival in Berlin until the present day. And of course we saw many places we wouldn’t have recognized as vital to Jewish history in Berlin. Lots of opportunity to ask questions. I strongly recommend this tour.

What a wonderful tour! Our guide, Ronan, impressed us with the layers of Jewish history in Berlin if you know where to look, pointing out many details we would have missed on our own.
