Such a fun, authentic Sri Lankan cooking experience! Kumara and his family are amazing hosts - it’s a bit chaotic, but that’s part of the charm, and the size of the group we had says a lot about how popular this is. His love for cooking is infectious. Pro tip: grab his secret curry powder before you leave - you’ll wish you’d bought more!
Because of the super-enthusiastic reviews, our expectations may have been a bit too high but we still left this cooking workshop with some mixed feelings. The cooking itself was very nice, the dishes delicious and everything in an authentic environment. But: We don't need a speech of almost half an hour at the beginning about the bad Western lifestyle. Many Dutch tourists come and Kumaru has adopted the necessary silly jokes from the tourists. We thought that was a pity (because stay yourself) but that is of course also a matter of taste. We had the impression when booking to get a private workshop but we were 7 others, so quite a large group. Never mind but would have been nicer if that had been clearly communicated. Instead, Kumaru gave us the impression that because of the war in the MO, there was no more tourist. But he is no longer short of business. Good thing because he's a lovely man with a lovely family.
Amazing cooking class. Kumura and his lovely wife and mother showed us around their family garden and taught us amazing local dishes. This cooking workshop is all the more special since everything is grown with love, dedication and hard work, all organic and all via ayurvedic filosophy. Call / whatsapp directly; local people can use all the help they can get to support their families❤️.
Definitely recommended! We got a tour of his garden and got an explanation about all the fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits that grow there. Also learned a bit about healthy and ecological eating. The cooking was very pleasant with him and his family and the food was delicious beyond expectations!
What a wonderful sweet family and what a great cooking class. Everything is focused on healthy eating and is prepared with fresh vegetables and herbs from our own garden. There is a lot of humor and fun involved and you will also work on cutting, kneading and baking yourself. You cook everything in a kitchen where the fire is still traditionally stoked on wood. Sweltering hot, but beautiful. And then you can eat everything. Delicious!! It is extra super to support this family in times when they are struggling due to the war in the Middle East and the emergence of initiatives that copy their concept.
Super nice family where you traditionally learn to cook. The man knows a lot about nature, use of natural products and brings an atmosphere during the cooking class. Definitely recommended.
Very good food made and nice sweet family!
Nice family buisnes! They do It with love. Highly recommend the cooking class.
Perfect experience. Good food and nice people
This was a very interesting cookery class with a humble, honest and sweet family in a nice Sri Lankan outdoor setting. You also learn a bit about the Ayurvedic wisdom. The food you is amazingly tasty, you’ll be amazed by the great fresh taste! Even better then all the Disney’s you had before. Our kids (11&13) also enjoyed this class. Kumara and Thanuja are great teachers and make cooking Sri Lankan Sem easy. Make sure to book directly with them (easily via whatsapp - also last minute) as otherwise they need to pay commissionair to the hotel / taxi / etc. It is a nice short walk from the village passing a pretty lake, so going by foot is a very nice option.
