Resplan
I wouldn’t recommend this tour operator. Their prices were competitive, but I realise I would’ve preferred to pay the more expensive ones and have better memories of the trip. The communication with Mary was only fast when they pushed for booking and a payment. She was also able to remind me 5-10 times about the $10 tip, but forgot to provide basic recommendations like the fact that we needed our passports for the park entrance or that our plastic water bottles are not allowed even for the one day tours. Sure, we could’ve checked, but when she hastily push you for a debrief the night before the Kilimanjaro day tour and I ask her 3 times what should we bring… I mean 😒 I will recognise the guide offered to share his water so we ended up 500ml each. But for a +20km hike, would have preferred to have more water with me. However, overall the guide wasn’t great. He was only chatty and smiley with the driver, but not when we asked questions about Kilimanjaro. And clearly not when we falsely said the park closed at 5pm, only to make us unnecessary stressed and tired, when it actually closes at 6pm. The driver made us feel like we died 10times. The Mountain Warrior driver was just reckless and unsafe. The worst part is that when we said we felt unsafe he didn’t change the speed or the risky way to overtake vehicles. He just said “this is Tanzania”. As if we hadn’t taken 8 Bolts (like Uber) and had other drivers to understand it wasn’t a culture driving issue but his reckless driving one. That day was particularly difficult as we got engaged in the mountain. Not that we felt comfortable sharing it with the driver or guide. But their actions kind of tinted it. Oh, and of course, despite their bad service, everyone is still expecting and reminding you about the $10. They should just include it in the price. For the Tarangire tour, my main complain is that we were told we’d get a hamper lunch and instead got a lunch box that made half of the group fell sick. Food is not freshly made and I imagine some starts to decompose by the time we were having it. Plus, at 10pm the night before (and after the debrief which was really only about getting the rest of the payment) Mary changed our pick at time for one hour ahead (6am) as they grouped people from different tour operators. We were told this wouldn’t change the itinerary but ended up waiting at different Arusha lodges for about 2h and entering the Tarangire park quite late. For a 1 day trip, it matters a lot. So all in all, not a great experience. Perhaps it’s different for the Kili climb, but for day-tours, stay away from Mountain Warriors.
Everything run smoothly from the arrival at JRO airport(Kilimanjaro, pick up at the airport and transfer to hotel Mount Meru in Arusha- the hotel is ok for its location but old otherwise) to an excellent Safari drive although was rainy, but the driving skills of Mmbuana made us feel safe all the time. The last part of the Safari in the Ngorongoro crater brought some openings in the weather and we manage to see 4 of the 5 big ones: elephants, lions, black rhinos (3 of them) and hippos. The rainy season had its advantages as there were less crowds to see the animals and the most were 6 jeeps!! The Serengheti Serena lodge was very nice and should have been sunny we could have enjoyed a swim in their pool. The third day we went on the Mandara route on the Kilimanjaro mountain from 1800m to 2700 m. The hike is on a trail in the middle of a rain forest and we had the opportunity to encounter during the hike the monkeys that live in the forest. I warmly recommend Mmbuana as your driver for the safari and Carlos for the driver that takes you up from the hotel and drives you around to reach various destinations and in the end back to the airport.
The guides were amazing!! Jacob, Eli, and Sam were friendly, accommodating, and encouraging. The hike was beautiful!
From the beginning, Ruth was great to schedule with and we kept in touch with her leading up to our hike. Our driver, Joe, and one of our guides, Same, picked us up at 6:20 am from our AirBnB near Arusha. We then drove to Moshi to pick up two other hikers we didn’t know. On the way, they stopped so we could use the restroom and had the chance to buy some breakfast (but we had already eaten). We felt we were with a good driver. Both he and the guide were so polite and conversational-- we chatted for a long time on the way and they answered our questions about life in Arusha! Both of them live there and are native Tanzanians. They were friendly and kind and spoke English fluently. Our guide had climbed Kilimanjaro over 400 times. They were prepared with extra water and even shared bottles to pour it into with some of the other guests. We met two other guides there at the gate, Eli and Jacob. They helped us sign in, and we could use a restroom. All of the fees for the park had already been paid as part of our tour fee. The hike was beautiful and so green! We had mud on our shoes by the end. It was a fairly gradual slope and our guides were able to vary the pace for our needs! We split into a faster and slower group because our group needed that, and they were able to accommodate that. Along the way, they taught us Swahili words since we wanted to learn, and were very attentive to all of our needs. We even learned a song in Swahili from one of them! Passing hikers would call out, “Jambo!” We took fun pictures at the sign, ate lunch, used the restroom, and headed back down, enjoying the company of our group and other travelers along the way. Our guides were excellent, and they really made the whole thing even better than it already was! I would hike again with them in a heartbeat! I was sad to leave!
it was greatful experience. they are flexible to our place of pick up / drop off. the driver and guide was so kind.
This time, I chose this plan not for a serious climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, but to experience the atmosphere of the mountain. As a result, I was very happy to be able to experience the unique atmosphere of Mount Kilimanjaro, the most famous mountain in Africa! Our hiking guide, Joel, was very kind and knowledgeable, and he shared a lot of information about the mountain and Tanzania. Moreover, he always kept the mood lively, which made the hike very enjoyable! Thank you so much. One day, I would like to train in my home country and climb Mount Kilimanjaro to reach the summit!
