This was one of the most unique experiences we had in Tokyo! The instructors were incredibly welcoming, patient, and highly skilled, making the lesson enjoyable for both beginners and those with martial arts experience. Learning the history and techniques of the samurai and ninja, then putting them into practice with authentic swords and weapons, made the experience unforgettable.
My son and I did this ninja samurai session during our Tokyo trip, and it was hands down one of the highlights of our time in Japan. We were staying in Shinjuku, so it took a bit of travel time to get out to the location, but it was 100% worth the trip. From the moment we walked in, the energy was fantastic, and getting suited up in an actual ninja outfit made the whole experience feel special and immersive rather than just another tourist activity. Our instructor was the real star of the show: funny, patient, and clearly a genuine martial arts practitioner, you could tell this wasn’t just a job for him. His acting skills were seriously underrated too; he had us laughing hysterically throughout the session while still keeping things informative. He struck a perfect balance between real history and hands-on learning, teaching us about actual ninja and samurai survival skills and the philosophy and discipline behind both traditions. We learned how to walk silently like a ninja, and then got to practice handling traditional weapons under his guidance, which was a thrill for both of us. By the end, my son and I were grinning ear to ear and talking about it for the rest of the trip. It’s rare to find an activity that blends culture, history, laughter, and hands-on adventure this well. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience in Tokyo, especially one you can share with your kids, I can’t recommend this session highly enough!
I have been doing martial arts since I was 8 years old and I can tell you that it is very nice to see how a teacher has so much love for his art and his teaching and that he can transmit it in such a genuine way to foreigners who do not fully understand what he is showing, but you can notice the skill he has. I strongly recommend asking him questions because it is clear that he knows what he is doing, and do not be afraid to take photos or videos because he is very kind regarding that. If you have the same luck as me and book an early time slot, you might find yourself with a practically private class, and I recommend it 100%. I happened to have a rainy day, so it was the best alternative to spending the day locked up anywhere else.
This was a fantastic experience. My daughter and I went on the final day of our visit to Japan. We were feeling a bit low because we had a series of wonderful experiences and were sad to be leaving the country after a too short visit. The Ninja Samurai lesson certainly reminded us of all the reasons why we were sad to leave. Our instructor was gracious and patient and answered all of our many questions about ninjas and samurais and their place in Japanese history and culture. But it was also an energetic and uplifting experience to end our trip. Our instructor had terrific energy, was an encouraging teacher, and made us feel at ease immediately. I would highly recommend taking this lesson!
Hyoga Sensei was our instructor. He is very kind, knowledgeable, patient, good-natured. Sensei is an excellent teacher. His English pronunciation was clear and precise. The entire experience of being transformed in our uniforms to learning about the philosophy and history of ninjas and samurai to practicing the principles and gestures of ninja to using the weapons was beyond our expectations. Highly recommend!
Great experience to learn about Ninja and Samurai. A Master teached us most important Ninja activities with a lot of enthusiasm and know how.
Great Sensei, has a lot of passion for the arts and is very empathetic. I can recommend the class for everyone, young and old alike.

We did the samurai experience at this dojo with our two kids (boys 10, 12y). The teacher was fantastic with the children — patient and engaging. His was easy to follow, even for the kids, and he acted out short scenes with us using the techniques we'd just learned. The session ran well over 2 hours instead of the planned time, and he still delivered everything that was promised without rushing through it. The kids loved it.
This was definitely one of the main highlights of our trip to Japan. We learned so much about ninjas, samurai, Japanese culture and traditional weapons such as swords, blow darts and shurikens. Using the weapons on targets was so satisfying and fun, would definitely recommend for anyone.
