Detta är en helt unik tur som du inte hittar någon annanstans. Firar den fantastiska viktorianska skönheten i Liverpools Sefton Park och den roll den har spelat i mycket av den musik och konst denna otroliga stad har producerat. I årtionden har konstnärer, poeter, författare och musiker alla funnit inspiration på denna speciella plats. De har spelat in och uppträtt här. Echo och Bunnymen bodde här. Oasis, 1975, The Arctic Monkeys har spelat in här. Bjork, Ed Sheeran, The Stone Roses, Fatboy Slim har alla spelat shower här. Och det finns många, många fler historier att berätta. En Beatle bodde här, medan de andra lekte här som ungdomar. En världsberömd dirigent växte upp här. En av sin tids största brittiska stjärnor hade sin begravning här och 10 000 människor kom för att visa sin respekt. Bara två hållplatser från Liverpool Central, börjar vår tur på St Michael's Station, och slutar två timmar senare i den berömda och unika atmosfären på Lark Lane, med sina butiker, barer och restauranger.

När du promenerar i och runt den fantastiska viktorianska oasen Sefton Park förstår du varför den utsågs 2024 av The Times till en av de bästa platserna att bo på i Storbritannien. Sefton Park sträcker sig lat över 235 hektar av lugna, fantastiska landskap och vattenvägar. Det är en sann pärla i vår stads krona, med en fascinerande historia av sin egen, men parkens roll som hem och inspiration för så många musiker under åren sedan den öppnade, som en bakgrund, som konstnärers musa och även idag som en levande plats är vad vi är här för att prata om. Från Bjork till Bunnymen, från tidiga Arctic Monkeys till Atomic Kittens succéer till Africa Oyé - Storbritanniens största gratis firande av afrikansk musik och kultur. Allt finns här. Från George Melly, George Formby och George Harrison till parkdesignlegenden Edouard André, Jamie Webster och The 1975. Från Frankie till The Farm. Från Love to The La’s, Pulp to The Stone Roses...du får idén. Allt handlar inte om The Beatles (även om vi nämner dem)!

I spent the glorious Bank Holiday Monday with five other guests on a two hour guided tour of the Seton Park area experiencing the history of the culture area. From the founding of St Michael's in the Hamlet to a side street that changed the history of music in the 1990s, via tales of The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, Courtney Love, Jimmy McGovern, the creation of the park itself and ultimately the story of a cardigan that cost 80p in a Belgian shop and ended up being worth a fortune. The two hours flew by with Paul being a fantastic, entertaining, informative and insightful host. It's a great experience in a lovely area and I highly highly recommend it.
Paul really knows his stuff. I went on the tour as someone who grew up on the music of the early 80’s Liverpool post punk scene. But there were so many gems, and fascinating stories I was unaware of, and being told these “on location” really painted a picture. That’s not to say that’s all this tour is about, there’s history a plenty right from the off, St Michael’s Station, the church, St Charles on Aigburth Road, Lark Lane & Sefton Park itself. Landowners, Steel Magnates, Alternative Clergy, Artists, Musicians it’s all in there. Two hours flew by walking in a beautiful part of the city. Get yourselves booked on!
Paul has personality and friendliness in bags and was great at filling the sizeable gaps in my own knowledge of growing in the 80s and listening to and going to see Liverpool bands. We saw where The Bunnymen lived, where Nasher was working when he heard Relax was a hit, where Larks In the Parks was staged, all brought back lots of great memories. I thought I knew a lot but it was a real education. The 2-hour walk and talk was comfortable, very interesting and ended on the very popular Lark Lane. Great value for money.

The Music & Art Tour of Sefton Park was an insightful and amusingly funny walk around a part of Liverpool I knew little about, until now. Paul our tour guide was a fantastic raconteur, who has vast knowledge of the area and revealed wonderful tales of the artists and musicians who inhabited the streets, at every turn. From George Formby to Echo & The Bunnymen, from George Melly to Julian Cope, there was a great story to tell. I would highly recommend without hesitation. If you want to know a bit more about the music, culture and history of the great city of Liverpool, this tour is essential.

Had a great time on this guided walk. Paul is a mine of information - some of it obscure, lots of it funny, and all of it shared in his inimitable style. I turned up on my own, but that wasn’t an issue at all, billy no-mates need not fear. This is also a really beautiful area to walk around - if you’re not familiar with this bit of Liverpool, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Dead easy to get to the start of the walk, too, it’s right by the train station. Definitely recommended.
Great trip around the area with Paul. Amazing in depth knowledge of the area, music and the subject matter. A must for any music fan of the 70s and 80s. But also any history buffs!
