Mauthausen Memorial Tour

Highly recommend this tour! Johann is an exceptionally well studied, passionate, and knowledgeable guide to take you through a powerful and moving visit. He communicated perfectly about travel arrangements and provided a very comfortable journey through the area en route to the memorial site, with many stories along the way. We learned so much and are so glad we included this experience in our European vacation plans while visiting from the US. To walk the exact path that concentration camp victims - which included not only Jews but other marginalized groups - walked and see where such horrors in history took place, all while neighboring villagers went about their daily life, was incredibly powerful. To see where tens of thousands of men, women, and children were tortured, enslaved, abused, and perished in unfathomable ways was more profound than we could put into words. We are grateful for Johann’s commitment and dedication to the Mauthausen Memorial and the opportunity and privilege it was to visit with him. May our world never forget. May we never become tolerant of or indifferent to the antisemitism that still exists today. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

We went on tour with Mr. Gutenbrunner as part of a Viking group. The tour was extremely well-done and thought-provoking. I greatly admire the work that Johann is doing in making sure that this story is not forgotten. The Steps are particularly chilling.
