Landets kulinariska utbud varierar från grillat kött och läckra soppor till lättare snacks och stekt fisk till läckra bakverk och otroliga juicer. Vi stannar till i Riad zitoun el kdim för att smaka på den marockanska SEFANJ. Sfanj är marockanskt bakverk. Den görs med deg, formas till ringar och steks sedan i het olja tills den får en gyllene färg. Marockanerna vänjer sig vid sfenj som börjar i tidig barndom antingen på morgonen innan skolan börjar eller sent på eftermiddagen efter lektionernas slut. Den läckra söta maten serveras varm med en skvätt socker, vanligtvis med en kopp mintte, och du kan hitta den i nästan alla bagerier på de marockanska gatorna eller traditionella marknader
Vi kommer att besöka en marknad med oliver. Vi kommer att stanna och smaka på alla sorters oliver och (harisa) harisa är en varm chili.
Efter att vi smakat oliverna åker vi vidare till Derb Dabachi och smakar marockansk Mseman. Msemen är en platt, fyrkantig marockansk pannkaka som vanligtvis serveras till frukost eller te tid. De görs genom att platta rghaif degen på en oljad yta tills papperet är tunt, pricka den med smör och mannagryn, sedan vika den i tredjedelar (två gånger) för att forma en skiktad pannkaka.
Efter att vi smakat Mseman ska vi promenera till Jemaa El fna och prova Chebakia. Chebakia är en av de mest kända marockanska livsmedel och är definitivt en cookie som alla som försöker avgudar. Den traditionella söta maten finns i de flesta marockaners hus, särskilt under ramadanmånaden, på restauranger också, och naturligtvis på Marockos livliga medinagator.
Zaalouk är en rökig aubergine och tomatsallad, kryddad med kryddor och vitlök. Den mosas ofta till en doppliknande konsistens och ringlas med olivolja. Som ett bevis på Marockos rikliga råvaror firar Zaalouk den ödmjuka auberginen. Serveras som en sida eller en förrätt, dess rökiga och syrliga smaker gör den till en stapelvara i marockansk mezze. Mechoui är en traditionell marockansk rostad lammrätt. Lammet kryddas med en blandning av kryddor, sedan långstekt tills det är mört och faller av benet. Köttet äts ofta med fingrarna, vilket gör det till en gemensam matupplevelse. Mechoui är ofta reserverad för speciella tillfällen och stora sammankomster. Dess tillagnings- och serveringsmetod, där hela lammet steks, visar den marockanska traditionen av gemensam middag och fest.

We had a wonderful food tour with Mobarak! Our nine-year-old son who is an extremely picky eater absolutely loved the tour and even tried snails, which was his favorite part. We tried many street foods and local places which was just what we wanted. Highly recommend!

We had a great tour personalized to our likes and requests. The guide was very friendly and accommodating. He asked what type of foods we had already tried and what we wanted to try. He also made recommendations on what he thought we should eat. Enjoyed trying everything and would definitely recommend this experience. Great way to try a lot of local dishes from local merchants.

Hmad was an excellent guide. Aside from the variety of local foods we tasted, his history of Morocco from a Berber’s perspective was very insightful.

Definately one of the best nights we enjoyed. The directions to the meeting point were super and given it was our first night, we found Mbarek straight away. Being out of season there was only my Husband and myself on the Tour. Mbarek made us feel at ease immediately and then off we went. He took us around the whole Medina and areas that we probably would either not have found or perhaps not gone into not knowing the area. We sat and ate with locals at different venues and sampled traditional Moroccan cuisine with beautiful mint tea. MBarek explained a lot about the history of buildings, the culture and the different foods and spices. I will say, make sure you are hungry as everything was stunning but I felt I could not do the food justice as just too much, although my Husband gave it a very good go!! We really enjoyed everything we tried...even the fantastic snail stand in the Medina and the amazing 'half' sandwiches (which we had another three of during our stay). Unfortunately, I cannot load any photo's of the lovely dishes or Mbarek himself as my phone was stolen on the last day and I had not uploaded to the cloud, so pretty gutted about that. All of that aside, I would definately recommend this tour. For a first night, it also gives you all your bearings as the Medina can be a bit a maze for first timers, but after this night - we always knew where we were and how to get everywhere. Authentic Moroccan street food tour. Our guide spoke excellent English and was very informative on the foods plus any other questions we asked him about Marrakesh. We walked a good wide area, so got to see lots of the bustling city. Was nice to try the foods the locals eat. We was very full by the end of the tour!
