We hired a tour guide to help us explore & navigate the city, but looking back, we could’ve easily done it ourselves using Google Maps. The tour took nearly 4 hours, though this could have beeen completed in like 2.5. The guide was friendly and spoke good English, which was a plus. However, it wasn’t mentioned during booking that some attractions required additional payment — we had to pay 100 MAD per person at two sites. With three of us, that added up to 600 MAD out of pocket. One woman in the group was especially annoyed since she didn’t have enough cash and felt misled. We also spent almost an hour at a shop selling Moroccan tea, spices, and oils, where the staff gave a lengthy product demo and encouraged us to buy. It felt more like a sales stop than part of the tour.

We had a wonderful experience on this half-day walking tour through the historic center of Marrakech. Our guide, Hakim, was outstanding from start to finish. He kindly met us at our accommodation, making the experience easy and convenient from the very beginning. Throughout the tour, Kim took us to the city’s most important landmarks while sharing the fascinating history of Marrakech. He provided great context, interesting facts, and answered every question we had with patience and knowledge. He also gave us plenty of time to take photos and enjoy each location without feeling rushed. This was a great tour. We had a small group and was able to tailor the timing and places of visit to what we wanted to do. We took breaks for drinks and to get in the shade of the heat when needed. Abdul provided many interesting facts and was able to answer our questions we had. The tour we went on didn’t include the tourist sites but the palace was well worth the visit. Wouldn’t bother going into the catacombs.

Despite the heat, the tour was very interesting. Our guide Mohcine is very friendly and explains the history of Morocco and its connections to the sites visited well. We are very satisfied with this experience.

Walking tours with visits to some touristic sites included makes it easier to immerse in the local culture. I chose private because I wanted to improve my french without bothering others, but the explanations were clear, the route is appropriate, we skipped the line to enter the sites, and going back through the mazes in the suks was just amazing. I highly recommend guided walking tours.
