I had no idea what a great activity this would be! It was so enjoyable! The host was so knowledgeable and really wanted each participant to walk away with a beautiful piece of plaster work that was truly beautiful! Not only did each person make their own plaster work from start to finish, but him and another master of this craft made us each another one that was beautiful. I highly recommend this activity and what the hosts are truly interested in helping you make something beautiful!
Lovely program, venue, and people. This art form is unique and I highly recommend it! I was worried about not being able to make it due to my tour group activities running late — but Mohammed was accommodating and very kind to help me find my way after the workshop. He gives good instructions/demo and his music playlist was enjoyable! You get beautiful souvenirs to remember your Morocco trip!
This was so unexpected. The evening started with some tea to greet us, a conversation about the key art disciplines of Morocco, and then progressed to an incredible demonstration of what we were about to try our hand at. Don't worry, you don't have to be good, you just have to be curious and willing to try something out to see how you like it. You will leave with something gorgeous and if you're like me, the gentle demeanors of the very skilled craftsmen teaching you will stick with you all the way back to your home country. 10/10
This was a wonderful class from someone who truly has as passion for the art. The rial is covered in his work and he took the time to explain the history and themes before we started the actual work. We learned the fundamentals and created a basic piece. We also chose a more complex version that he and a friend were able to complete while we worked so he was nearby but not hovering. Very appreciated! I would absolutely do this course again and will bring my family if we are in Fes in the future.
This was one of our favorite things we did on vacation - it was educational, hands-on, and very interesting!
Wow! What an amazing experience. A very warm welcome. Mohammed is a true artist with tremendous patience. He really makes you understand it very well and also makes you feel at home.
Discover the art of plaster carving with Mohamed! Inspired by Morocco’s stunning carvings, we dove into this hands-on class after a warm cup of mint tea. Mohamed shared the tools, techniques, and history behind the craft before guiding us through our own designs. After observing a demonstration of the process, we each picked up a chisel and hammer and started creating our own plaster artwork. We left not only with our own creations but also beautifully carved pieces by the master himself. The experience exceeded our expectations and was a highlight of our trip to Morocco —plus, Mohamed takes custom orders! He recreated a piece I fell in love with and did it by the time we finished dinner.
Amazing class by very skillful artisans! Learning about culture and art of Morocco by physically engaging with it is the best way. We ended up taking home marvelous carvings made by the artists during the class (we had a chance to pre-choose the designs we liked) as well as our own creations. They are very hospitable and patient to their students - highly recommend for all ages and skill levels!
We delved into the ancient craft of sculpting at Mohammed's, where we observed pros at work and honed our own skills on practice pieces. It felt less like a workshop and more like a casual hangout among friends, surrounded by captivating visuals – from intricate tiles to scenic views and whimsical doodles left by past visitors. As we immersed ourselves in our creations, even the kids were engrossed for hours. With the freedom to take breaks and explore the eclectic house, we felt both inspired and proud of our finished pieces, all while marveling at the expertise of the artisans.
Mohammed is a skilled artist and an excellent teacher. Whether you are an artist yourself or simply curious, we could not recommend this experience more highly! We will definitely remember this for years to come.
