Great way to experience Manuel Antonio National Park

This was a really easy way to experience Manual Antonio National Park - highly recommended. We were staying in Jaco, which is about 2 hours from the park. We were picked up right on time and driven up to the company's restaurant/store, about 30 minutes out from the park. We stopped there for breakfast and then drove the rest of the way up. The park was not too crowded and our guide had a very keen eye, picking out animals both big and small throughout the hike. The first half of the hike is really where you see the majority of the animals. Guides are spotting things to show their groups, and the guides share info amongst each other to ensure everyone has a great experience/sees as much as possible. Half-way through we stopped at a beach to cool off a bit. After 45 minutes or so there, we walked the rest of the way through the park. While the first half of the walk was on a trail, the second half was on a boardwalk through the mangroves - there was far less to see here, and we made our way through that area fairly quickly. Once returning to the entrance, we were driven back to the restaurant/store for lunch, then back to our hotel. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth the trip. I appreciate not needing to drive/navigate our way from Jaco - our driver and tour guide were fantastic!

Great Animal Sight Seeing and Swimming

Our group was constantly engaged and our guide found plenty of different animals that we would have never noticed, from snakes to sloths and several kinds of monkeys. It was incredible how easily he found them and with what frequency. There was ample time to take photos through the magnifier and he shared plenty of information. Swimming in the cove was terrific too. The only negative was that we were picked up well after when we were told to be ready. The van had to stop and pick up other groups before us, which is understandable, but it was never communicated to us that there was a window so we were starting to think that no one was coming after 45 minutes. Once the driver arrived we asked why he was late and he showed that he was on time according to his own schedule. This just wasn't explained to us prior to pickup. Overall, it was a great trip and worth the price paid.

An amazing experience!

We had an amazing experience! Our tour consisted of about 15 people. Our driver was prompt and picked us up ant our air bnb and brought us to the tour guide station near the park where we were greeted by Alvin, our guide. We then ate breakfast (eggs, rice/ beans and Plantains. Fruit was also a choice) and went off to the park. Alvin was attentive to everyone and extremely patient! He took time to tell us of his experience prior to becoming a guide and the acres of palm trees near the park. He was very knowledgable about the park and animals. We saw sloths, white face monkeys, a lizard eating a hummingbird, a snake eating a tree frog, iguanas, with our own eyes. Alvin was able to get extremely close views with his scope and allowed everyone to view. He also shared all of his pictures with us at the end of the tour. At the end of the tour we went back to the restaurant to eat lunch. We would def do this tour again and recommend doing it. Hopefully you will get Alvin! 🤙🏽🤙🏽 Pura Vida Alvin!

Disappointing and expensive

Did not see much and very expensive despite the good intentions of the guide. Expensive for a walk in the woods.

Our tour guide was...

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about everything inside the park as well as the history of Costa Rica. The breakfast and lunch that was provided were incredible. We were fortunate to see sloths, monkeys, snakes, and many species of birds.

Fantastic tour with Ronald

Ronald was our tour guide and he was awesome! He speaks English well and loves to share his knowledge of the area. He also has incredible skills in finding animals, like monkeys & sloths, and spiders and other creatures hiding in the plants & trees & shares his scope to see them up close & then shares photos after trip. He made our 8 round trip from Jaco a magical experience. The breakfast & lunch were very good too. He is a true professional!

Worst Tour in Costa Rica

This was the worst tour I have been on in Costa Rica. We were picked up 45 minutes late due to traffic (but no other tour pick-ups were delayed at our hotel). We were pumped to see animals and for the 90 minute ride to the park we were told we were going to see sloths, monkeys, caiman, etc. Everything was through the lens of the guide with the exception of the monkey. They said don't take pictures the guide will and give them to you. That is because you can't take the picture. You need a high power lens. I feel like I have fake photos. The crowds were awful. We were constantly being told by other guides to get out of the way. The beach is a joke. The water is rough. There are no chairs. We had to sit on tree stumps for an hour. Breakfast and lunch were average at best and I didn't want to eat lunch at 3 pm. Don't go on this tour.

Operatörens svar

Hi Judy, We’re really sorry to see that your trip to Manuel Antonio was completely disturbed by unexpected traffic congestion due to the road construction on Tarcoles bridge. So you know, Tucanes Tours offers pick up from Jaco Hotels considering a 45 minutes- 1hr drive each way. Since we know this may be an inconvenience for any traveler we offer complimentary breakfast before the tour and included Buffett lunch after hiking and relaxing at the beach, which is usually at 1p.m., but due to all the traffic congestion our planning was affected and therefore our time at the park extended a bit longer to allow you to enjoy the hike and the beach. We especially want to apologize for the frustration regarding the photos and the crowds. Our guides use those high-powered scopes because the wildlife can be so elusive, but we are sad to hear that it made your photos feel "fake" rather than like a genuine memory. You are absolutely allowed to use your own cameras as well and we will be sure to encourage it more going forward. Manuel Antonio is the most visited park in Costa Rica. While we try to navigate the trails to avoid the busiest pockets, the popularity of the park can lead to congestion that is sometimes outside of our direct control. We’re constantly trying to find ways to navigate those crowds better. As for the beach… Sitting on a tree stump for an hour isn't optimal but the beaches within the National Park are kept in their natural state to protect the ecosystem which is why amenities like lounge chairs are prohibited by park regulations. We apologize for all the inconveniences on the traffic and how it affected your experience. At Tucanes Tours we will continue to work hard and have our customers and friends enjoy the beauty of nature at Manuel Antonio Park, beach and our culture. Your experience was not our typical routine and is not the way we want anyone to remember their time in Costa Rica. Please feel free to contact us if you feel your tour was not worth the value and would like to get a resolve this in a private way. At Tucanes we value our guests experience more than anything and want to make sure you know we care. Best regards, Tucanes Tours

Skip the volcano and just do a beach trip

The beach part of the trip was okay, it was nice weather, I honestly don't think this beach or ocean is the prettiest in that area - the hike was not hard at all and groomed the whole way. Our tour guide was great too. The volcano part of the trip, which consisted of a trail to see the Volcano wasn't groomed at all and muddy and really nothing to observe on our way - one Tucan, no other animals at all - could've skipped this part. We did skip the longer trail apparently, because the volcano was fogged in and you couldn't see it anyway. I would pass on the volcano part of this and book just a beach trip.
