Den första delen av turen leder genom ett gammalt sjömanskvarter som heter Zeedijk Street och Amsterdams berömda Chinatown. Den här delen av Red Light District brukade vara ett no-go-område men har totalt förändrats till en säker och vänlig del av staden. 1. Dammen, även känd som staden byggd på träd: På grund av att jorden i Amsterdam består av ett tjockt lager av fen och lera, är vissa byggnader i staden byggda på trästolpar som är fixerade i ett sandigt lager som är ca. 11 meter djup. Sedan gamla dagar var husen i Amsterdam kända för att ha byggts på trägrundpålar som drivs djupt ner i lera, torv och vatten tills de når det första lagret av fast sand.
Området är en del av Red Light District, närmare bestämt en del av Gamla stan. Så det här är den äldsta delen av staden och det är därför det finns mycket historia också.
Pub The Ape, även känd som Int Aepjen på holländska. Byggt omkring 1540 och en av två kvarvarande träbyggnader kvar i Amsterdam. Vilket är väldigt speciellt då det var en stor brand 1452 och efter det beslutade regeringen att byggnader skulle ha tegelfasader.
Waag brukade vara en av Amsterdams stadsportar, en del av försvarsmuren. Den byggdes runt 1400-talet och är den näst äldsta byggnaden i Amsterdam. Senare användes den som ett skrå, hantverkarorganisationer, placerade sig inom Waag och runt torget.
Amsterdams minsta hus byggdes runt 1700-talet och användes först som förvaringsplats för VOC-handelsföretaget. Senare började folk bo i huset under mycket lång tid.
Detta är världens första kondombutik special för kondomer, på plats här sedan 1987. Du kan få en storlek anpassad kondom och alla typer av specialkondomer.

Ben was very entertaining with all his stories. He kept the tour very interesting. There is so much more than you can imagine within the History of Amsterdam.
Fun and informative tour with a wonderful guide. Very aware of the ages involved and was cognizant of informational impact.
Ben was the guide. Nice guy and we saw some unique events. He was too much of a story teller on tales that were off topic for the content of the tour.

It was a crazy day to do the tour as it was King’s Day. Guide was knowledgeable but unfortunately werenot able to see all the sites

Highly recommend this tour. This is a big part of Amsterdam history. We did the 1800 tour that is more family friendly and was ideal for my 17 year old, the later tour I would keep for adults only. Our tour guide was amazing and we learnt a lot

VERy BAD Experience. If you are in Amsterdam the pst 3-4 days, you know the weather is not good. It is very difficult to walk on an icy street. We arrived at the meeting place at 6:02. We suppose to meet at 6:00. I messaged the operator. I called. Meanwhile, i did not receive any updates or message from the operator. When we arrived the (small group) left. No one was there. We waited until 6:15. We were so disappointed. Bad Tour operator for not giving us a chance even for 2 mins. My other tours in Tripadvisor and Get your-guide give at least 5 mins allowance to wait…they call the clients… I am not doing anymore any Viator tour. What a shame!

The tour was rich in history as well as the tour of the red light district. Ben articulated history and related and well.
we did the tour with Ben he was grate. very informative. we arrived a little earlier for the tour so we when for a little walk in the area but after the tour walking the same route we had much more appreciation for the area and customs. highly recommend this tour if its your thirst time to Amsterdam then it is a must
