Lissabon vaknar: A Culinary Crossroads, Reborn.

Vi börjar med att resa tillbaka i tiden för att smaka på "Utforskningens tidsålder", en gyllene period när Lissabon blev centrum för ett globalt imperium, översvämmad av makt och innehar nycklarna till kryddhandeln. Vi kommer att leta efter en smak av dessa avlägsna rötter i det enkla utbudet av ett klassiskt konditori bredvid Estrela-basilikan från 1700-talet. Därifrån tar vi oss upp till det avlägset Campo de Ourique-kvarteret, där vår historia hoppar över till samtida tider i denna välbevarade "by" i staden. Vi tar en magvärmande shot en shot ginjinha, en slät surkörsbärslikör som är en traditionell lokal ögonöppnare, på väg till en av Lissabons finaste traditionella marknader. Där kommer vi att utforska de gamla hantverkarna – fiskhandlare, slaktare, grönsakshandlare, bagare – som arbetar tillsammans med mer moderna boutiqueerbjudanden som nyligen lagts till på marknaden. Genom att höra deras berättelser hittar vi den där söta platsen där dåtid och nutid, nära och fjärran, möts och blir härligt sammanflätade.

I very highly recommend this tour. Our guide Kika was extraordinary and it was wonderful to be introduced to places enjoyed by locals and that we never would have found on our own. And we had the best pastel de nata in town! We will certainly do more tours with Culinary Backstreets in other cities.

The best way to experience Lisbon, away from the tourist traps and amongst genuine neighbourhoods, genuine locals and genuine flavours. Kika was an exceptional guide, offering our small group an intimate and super interesting history lesson that tied together everything about our surroundings in Portugual- the people, the places and of course the flavours. We had a fantastic time on our walking food tour of Lisbon with Laura. We are in our 80’s and when I asked about tour was told flat and stroller friendly. For the most part it was flat with the exception of one difficult hill, st least for us. Our guide was wonderful and patient as were the other two couples who joined us..first stop traditional Portuguese food and enjoyed several of the dishes. Was surprised that our second stop was Indian Food which I would not have expected ! Not a fan of Indian food so did not eat at that stop. Last stop was for dessert throughly enjoyed along with our stop to the local Mercado. Would love to know where we could buy those wonderful nuts that we found in the market. Should have bought more.
