Porta Rudiae är en av de historiska portarna till staden Lecce som tillät tillgång till staden genom att korsa dess försvarsmurar. Den nuvarande strukturen, byggd 1703, är en barockrekonstruktion som realiserats tack vare Prospero Lubelli.
Tidigare var torget känt som "Biskopspalatsets innergård", ett område reserverat exklusivt för prästerskapet och omgivet av religiösa byggnader som isolerade det från resten av staden.
Katedralen i Lecce, även kallad katedralen Santa Maria dell’Assunta e Sant’Oronzo, är centrum för stadens religiösa liv. Katedralen byggdes om 1659 på ruinerna av en tidigare kyrka, som hade rivits eftersom den inte längre var tillräcklig för att ta emot den växande befolkningen av troende.
Klocktornet i katedralen i Lecce är över 70 meter högt och pryds av balustrader, blomvaser, pyramider och andra utsmyckade dekorationer. Fantastisk utsikt från toppen!
Romerska teatern, ett av de viktigaste vittnesmålen från den antika kejsarstaden Lupiae. Teatern, som byggdes under de första decennierna av det första århundradet e.Kr. på order av kejsar Octavianus Augustus, tillsammans med amfiteatern som jag kommer att berätta om senare, representerade ett viktigt nöjescentrum för denna stad i det romerska riket.
Det var kejsaren Octavianus Augustus, under de första decennierna av 1000-talet e.Kr., som ville bygga denna stora amfiteater. Studier tyder på en kapacitet på cirka 20 000 åskådare.
Piazza Sant’Oronzo representerar staden Lecces verkliga vitala centrum, inte bara ur en konstnärlig synvinkel, utan också symboliskt och socialt. Piazza Sant’Oronzo ligger i hjärtat av det som en gång var den romerska Lupiae.
Basilikan Santa Croce anses vara symbolen för Lecces barock. Dess konstruktion började 1549, på initiativ av Celestine Fathers, en religiös orden, efter rivningen av det tidigare templet och klostret som grundades under andra hälften av 1300-talet i området kring Carlo V-slottet.
Karl V-slottet är det största slottet i Puglia. Byggt på 1100-talet e.Kr., fick det sitt namn efter den spanske kungen Karl V eftersom kejsaren 1539 beordrade återuppbyggnaden av det tidigare slottet, som ansågs olämpligt för att försvara staden från turkiska intrång i Medelhavet.

The audiotour was great, very much information about the stops. Matteo from Walking Cap matteo@walkingcap.com is very knowledgeable. The additional info about different local food and adresses where you could go where molto bueno. I went to one of them and had the local dish Ciceri è Tria. Delicious! I would recommend the audioguide tour because you can do it at your own speed and have stops in between. Thanks Matteo.
Before I booked this, I had already completed the audio guide in Alberobello, so I knew what to expect. I do find this to be a great way of exploring somewhere! It is great for solo travellers and those who don't want to spend as much on a guided tour. I like that you can explore at your own pace, taking time to stop for food, drinks or shopping. The link to the guide also comes with the written explanation of the audio guide in case you have forgotten your headphones!

This was a perfect way for us to see Lecce on our own terms! The guide allowed us to set our own timetable and not be part of a group. Would definitely use again for other destinations.
It’s an easy download and guide to follow and navigate. Very interesting history and information on Lecce. We did a self guided tour and enjoyed lunch & some shopping along the way!
An economical and useful way to approach a first visit to a city that one does not know, directed towards unmissable places and monuments. Lecce is a remarkable city made bright by the number of buildings constructed from Lecce stone. The guide is very clear in the essentials of the commentary, which can be deepened on the sites normally used by tourists (wiki or city sites or those of individual monuments).
A great option to learn and have a plan but still be able to do your own thing/deviate/go at your own pace. I did this tour in Bari and Lecce and loved it both times. A great option for the price and if you have limited time or don't want to deal with a guided tour.
I used these tours in Bari and Lecce and they were such a great way to see this city with a little extra guidance and information, without having to join a full guided tour or do the research yourself. The information is basic, but thorough for each stop and it is so easy to follow with map links to every site. It's the perfect way to learn and have a goal instead of just walking around but still have freedom to do your own thing.
