Titicacasjöns skimrande blå vatten är hem för de berömda, konstgjorda flytande öarna Uros. Dessa öar och deras bostäder, som går tillbaka till en tid före Inkan, är helt gjorda av totoravass, en inhemsk bulbusväxt som växer i sjön. Med en guidad tur kan du lära känna invånarna som har bildat ett litet samhälle och lär dig hur dessa öar håller sig flytande. Under eftermiddagen kan du besöka ön Amantani och uppleva lokalbefolkningens unika kultur.

Vi hämtar dig från ditt hotell i Punos historiska centrum mellan 0645 och 0700 på morgonen. Innan du går ombord på motorbåten till Uros Island tar vi ett kort stopp vid båtbryggan där du kan köpa lite snacks och vatten på flaska. När du väl satt dig i båten skulle en lokal musiker välkomna dig med en andisk folklorisk musik. Vår guide skulle sedan presentera sig själv och kaptenen på båten innan han ger dig en kortfattad information om dagens resväg på världens högsta farbara sjö, Titicacasjön. Vårt första stopp kommer att vara vid de ikoniska flytande öarna Uros. Under resan från fastlandet till en av Urosöarna kan du se totora växter som växer vid Titicacasjön. Dessa utgör den grundläggande livsmedelskällan och samtidigt fungerar de som ett underhållssystem som Uroerna måste försvara öarnas existens När båten anlände skulle lokala kvinnor klädda i den lokala dräkten ett varmt välkomnande till den plats de kallar hem. Chefen för ön skulle sedan visa hur de bygger dessa öar med totora växter och skulle dela några ord på sitt modersmål (Aymara). Infödda här är kända för sitt hantverk, så du kan köpa några om du vill. Du kommer då att ha möjlighet att segla på den traditionella totora vassbåten (10 sulor) till huvudön på Uros. Om så önskas kan du få ditt pass stämplat här som en souvenir. Härifrån börjar vi vår båttur till Taquile öar. Du kan gå upp till det öppna däck på den övre nivån på båten och få några bilder av de flytande öarna som du skulle passera genom.
Som bryter mot det gröna vattnet i Perus Titicacasjö ligger den lilla kulleön Taquile där de lokala byborna har skapat en stadig industri av stickat hantverk, som stickas av männen i samhället. Taquile är hem för en Quechua-befolkning på 2 000 människor som huvudsakligen är bönder, fiskare och framför allt kända vävare. Men till skillnad från den ofta tragiskt traditionella synen på stickning och textilarbete som kvinnors ställning, är det männen på Taquile Island som gör mycket av det känsliga trådarbetet. Hantverket är uppdelat mellan vävning och stickning; kvinnor gör vävningen, medan stickningen är mannens arbete. Vi stannar för lunch på en lokal restaurang. Efter lunch runt 14:30 går du ombord på båten tillbaka till Puno. Cirka 04:30 på kvällen kommer båten att lägga till i Punos båtbrygga. Vi möter dig vid din ankomst och kör dig tillbaka till ditt hotell i stadens historiska centrum.

We did this full day trip to Lake Titicaca and it was just perfect. From the guide service to transport, everything was smooth. The locals were welcoming and friendly. We even toured the local home on the floating islands. It was a perfect day trip.

While the tour was amazing I think there should be more transparency on what occurs on the tour. My travel companion was having a little difficulty with the altitude, so we were taking it easy. I booked this tour thinking it was a cruise, you go to the floating islands, have lunch and then go back. Nowhere in the description did it say to have lunch you have to hike 1km up a hill (it may be further). If this was in the description I would have cancelled but instead we were left with the choice of climbing a hill with my companion sucking on oxygen or sit on a boat for 2 hours waiting. As I said previously the floating islands were wonderful but I think the walk to the lunch should be mentioned for travellers to make an informed choice.

Pick up was on time , we had a great guide and boat driver. The guide gave us so much information about the history and how the islands were built , the wildlife etc and the lake . The island we visited was great and had a female chief - impressive. They showed us through using models and materials how the islands are constructed. The lunch was delicious and they catered for my vegan diet . Very good day .

This review isn’t aimed directly at the tour company but rather the experience on the islands. We arrived at Uros island and my partner and I found it to be rather uncomfortable. You are ushered into the local’s homes, they dress you in their clothes and then proceed to guilt trip you into buying their stuff. We also were told each island only has 1 visit every 3 weeks to further guilt trip you but upon research we found this was definitely false!! We found it to be extremely inauthentic and choreographed for your money. On top of that, we were directed onto their boat where they take you to another island. Yet once you are sat on the boat and the boat has left the island, they come around collecting money from you which isn’t optional! It is complete manipulation. The second island is much better but still very staged and it makes me sad that the people now completely rely on tourism to live. Definitely do not pay £42 either as you can get it for 30soles the day before at the port in Puno :)

A big thanks to our guide, Abel for making this trip a memorable one. The tour company was very well organized and easy to reach out to. Miluska, helped me plan the tour and provided all information to plan everything smoothly. The price included all admission fee and the group size was very small, around 12 people. Highly recommend for someone interested in knowing more about local traditions and customs and doing this on the way in or out of Puno to Bolivia.
