Nara Park är ett av de områden som måste ses i Nara City och är en av de äldsta parkerna i Japan. Todaiji är ett av Japans mest kända och historiskt betydelsefulla tempel och ett landmärke i Nara. Templet är upptaget på Unescos världsarvslista som ett av de "historiska monumenten i antikens Nara", tillsammans med sju andra platser, inklusive tempel, helgedomar och platser i staden Nara. Templets stora hall, Daibutsuden (Stora Buddhasalen), erkändes som världens största träbyggnad. Den massiva byggnaden rymmer en av Japans största bronsstatyer av Buddha (Daibutsu). Den 15 meter långa, sittande Buddha representerar Vairocana och flankeras av två Bodhisattvor.
Kyoto Prefectural Uji Park är en öpark omgiven av Uji River, som delar vattenflödet nedströms. Parken är ansluten till flodbankarna genom tre broar. Det finns många natursköna inslag, bland annat en stenpagod från 1200-talet som är 15 m hög. På våren bjuder parken på vackra vyer över körsbärsblommande skogar, och fåglar kan ses flyga på himlen. Rödfärgade broar förbinder stigarna på båda sidor av floden, och det är intressant att se änder dyka i den snabbt strömmande floden för att fånga fisk.
Byodo-in Temple är en av Japans bäst bevarade nationalskatter och finns med på UNESCO:s världsarvslista. Ujifloden är den enda flod som kommer från Biwasjön, den största sjön i Japan. Den har fungerat som en viktig vattenväg som förbinder Shiga och Osaka sedan antiken. Floden flyter genom Uji, delar staden i två delar och fungerar som en central brännpunkt, med de flesta butiker och restauranger som ligger längs dess stränder. Uji Bridge, den viktigaste passagen över floden, anses vara en av de tre äldsta broarna i landet.
Det finns omkring 30 000 helgedomar från Enare i Japan, Fushimi Inari Taisha är huvudhelgedomen, för att dyrka shintoguden för ris, Enare. Helgedomen är känd för Senbon Torii, tusentals vermilionröda toriiportar, som skapar en fantastisk och uppslukande tunnelliknande väg uppför det heliga berget Inari. The tour started in Osaka and our group got picked up in Kyoto. There was a delay in the tour. Overall the tour was good, fast pace for each area but a god chance to see the locations. My family opted out of the temples and had time to roam freely before going back to the bus. I would have liked to receive information about the tour ahead of time. Maybe they should create the WhatsApp groups earlier to provide updates to guest.

Our guide was wonderful and really made an effort to educate us as we drove between sites, so we'd know just what sites to expect and how much time we'd have - she made it fun and had a sense of humor. You really must download WhatsApp if the guides recommend it - they use it to reiterate tourism destinations and info, pin where to find the bus or parking lost, what time to be back, etc. Two members of the tour put us all in a terrible position - they were not using their phones, who knows what they were doing in Nara, but they caused us to run 20 minutes late. She did everything she could but it's Japan - everything and everyone is on time! It's just common courtesy on a tour like this and frankly you should not sign up if you can't follow simple rules. We were forced to leave them behind due to the nature of those time-specific parking lots... but it was a happy ending, as the couple just caught up to us by taking a taxi to the next site. It was unfortunate, and she clearly did everything possible - but how can you help someone who won't answer their phone? Anyway as I said they just found us again, and they obediently stuck to her side for the rest of the day. All that aside - I loved Nara; I think I would spend a half day there to really enjoy the museums, the deer, the Buddha. 90 minutes was too short! Visiting Uji was very special as I'm a green tea fan and they had some great shops. You *must* have cash for their cafes. The trip to Kyoto and the gates was satisfying to see, though by the end of the day it was extremely crowded and a little unpleasant due to the heat. I'm very glad I did this tour as it allowed me to see a lot, and I only hope that I can come back to Japan to linger in these beautiful towns. Grateful to the guide for making this a smooth trip.
