Från medeltiden var den judiska församlingen i Wien en av Europas största. Denna 2,5-timmars judiska Wien turné utforskar de tumultartade upplevelser av Wiens judiska medborgare genom utvisning, folkmord och väckelse. Din historiker guide kommer att hjälpa dig att upptäcka de inflytelserika bidragen från tidigare intellektuella och kulturella ikoner och den bräckliga vitalisering av Wiens judiska gemenskap som äger rum idag. Vi börjar utanför det judiska stadstemplet innan vi slingrar oss genom det andra distriktet till det förstörda Leopoldstädtertemplet. När vi besöker Nestroyhof-teatern med sin fantastiska jugendexteriör, en gång hem för jiddischtalande ensembler, reflekterar vi över lysande ledare för Wiens intellektuella, politiska och ekonomiska sfärer från det judiska samfundet: Sigmund Freud, Theodor Herzl, Karl Krauss, Franz Werfel och Gustav Mahler. När vi lär oss av offren och de överlevande från nazisternas folkmord besöker vi förstörda Ashkenazi- och Sefardiska synagogor och minnesmärket Judenplatz Holocaust.

Utanför de vackra dörrarna till det judiska stadstemplet överväger vi hur den wienska judiska gemenskapen var tvungen att hålla synagogorna knappt synliga från gatan trots deras inflytelserika roll i stadens utveckling under århundraden. Få europeiska städer har varit så nära sammanflätade med judisk historia som Wien. Utanför detta viktiga tempel lär vi oss om det judiska livet och den ökande bosättningen i Wien från medeltiden, trots dramatiska utvisningar. Vi besöker inte interiören men vi rekommenderar att du kontaktar synagogen för att ordna en turné med sina egna guider, öppna april till oktober, måndag till torsdag. Om du tar 11:30 på måndagens synagoga och sedan njuter av din lunch är du på det perfekta stället att börja vår 14:00 rundtur i judiska Wien. Om du tar turen 14:00 i synagogen på tisdagar och torsdagar passar den bra efter vår kl. 09.30 tisdag och torsdag med en lunchpaus.
Vi betraktar Wiens moderna judiska samhälls inflytande på alla aspekter av stadens kulturliv utanför Nestroyhof-teatern med dess fantastiska jugendstil exteriör, en gång hem för jiddischtalande ensembler.
Slingrar sig genom Wiens andra distrikt för att besöka minnesplatsen för det förstörda Leopoldstädter-templet. Idag symboliseras det av fyra imponerande vita kolumner som når upp till himlen.
Lär dig om offren och de överlevande av nazismordet och fenomenet antisemitism i Europa när du besöker de förstörda synagogorna i både Ashkenazi och Sephardic församlingar och Judenplatz Holocaust Memorial.

This was a fabulous 2.5 hr tour! Annalie, our guide was excellent! She was knowledgeable about the history of Jewish communities through the ages as well as cultural info you wouldnt find in history books. She was able to answer all of our questions and due to her varied background had personal knowledge and experiences to share. Her English was excellent making listening to her easy. This was a private tour for 4 of us and initially we thought it was very expensive. However, at the end of the tour we all agreed it was worth it. Additionally, this was not just a recitation of all the traumas, though this was discussed in a straightforward manner, but also of all of the contributions Viennese Jewish citizens made to Austria and the world. It was a refreshing and interesting take on a Jewish walking tour. I highly recommend it.

Our tour leader was knowledgeable and informative. She told lots of stories and showed us all around Vienna taking us back in time and into the present. Her pictures and stories brought the landscape to life.

We had the pleasure of touring "Jewish Vienna" with guide Annelie on 8/21/2025. Unfortunately, an accident on a major roadway held up traffic and prevented Annelie from meeting us on time. However, she called us, kept us informed and went out of her way to "make it up" for us. Annelie was everything you would want a tour guide to be, engaging and well informed on the subject matter. In addition to pointing out and explaining key sites she augmented her talk by showing us pictures in a binder of what key sites and people looked like in the past. The tour was small - my husband and I and two others, and Annelie checked in with all of us periodically to ensure she was addressing our interests and answering our questions. She also answered questions about some sites we were looking to find/experience after the tour. Thank you Annelie and Viator for helping us to experience Jewish Vienna.
