Itria Valley Tour: Polignano, Ostuni och Locorotondo, från Bari

Vi lämnar Bari klockan 8:30 för en dag med att upptäcka tre av Itria-dalens juveler. Polignano a Mare är en kuststad känd för sina branta klippor och Adriatiska havets kristallklara vatten. Det historiska centrumet, med sina smala gator, valv och blomsterprydda balkonger, har utsikt över stränder som Lama Monachile. Här gör vi ett stopp i 2 timmar och 30 timmar. Ostuni, den "vita staden", ligger på en kulle med spektakulär utsikt, och dess historiska centrum är en labyrint av gränder där vitkalkade hus skapar en unik atmosfär. Vi inbjuder dig att utnyttja de 2,5 timmarna som står till ditt förfogande för att prova typiska lokala rätter. Slutligen är Locorotondo känt för sitt cirkulära centrum, de vita husen prydda med blommor och "cummerse", de typiska sluttande taken. Härifrån kan du njuta av en fantastisk utsikt över vingårdarna och olivlundarna, kända för sina lokala vita viner. Vi stannar i Locorotondo i 1 timme och 30 minuter. Efter en dag full av upptäckter återvänder vi till Bari/Polignano klockan 19:00.

Polignano: Födelseplatsen för sångaren Domenico Modugno, som blev känd med sin "Nel blu dipinto di blu", Polignano fascinerar med den historiska stadskärnan rik på arabiska, bysantinska, spanska och normandiska spår, såsom resterna av de fyra försvarstornen som omgav den antika delen av staden. Ett kristallint hav och klippan broderad med imponerande håligheter, grävda av havet, är de utmärkande tecknen på Polignano a Mare, känd som "Adriatiska havets pärla", drygt 30 km från Bari.
Ostuni, känd som "Vita staden", är en charmig by i Apulien som står på en kulle och erbjuder spektakulär utsikt över den omgivande landsbygden och Adriatiska havet. Dess främsta kännetecken är arkitekturen i dess hus, alla vitkalkade, vilket ger det ett unikt och förtrollande utseende. I centrala Ostuni står katedralen Santa Maria Assunta majestätiskt, ett mästerverk av romansk-gotisk arkitektur. I hjärtat av Ostuni finns också Piazza della Libertà, en livlig mötesplats omgiven av kaféer och restauranger. På den omgivande landsbygden är det möjligt att fördjupa sig i de månghundraåriga olivlundarna som representerar regionens jordbrukshjärta.
Locorotondo: Detta är i sin egen rätt en av de vackraste byarna i Italien och har tilldelats den orange flaggan av Touring Club för harmonin i dess former och användbarheten i dess historiska centrum. I synnerhet kommer du säkert att fascineras av de fantastiska vita hydorna, de smala gatorna belagda med lokal stenbeläggning ("chianchen") och de eleganta portalerna. Men inte bara det: en annan egenhet med Locorotondo är husen med en regelbunden geometrisk form och ett sluttande tak, det senare bildat av två stigningar gjorda av kalkstensplattor, "cummerse". Dessa hus är nu renoverade och erbjuds besökarna i form av utbredda hotell.

The bus will.take you to the 3 villages and give you documentation for you to go and walk around. Comfortable bus.
Bus is always in time, way for the group. It clean, there are mineral water that you can buy in the bus. The guide is telling most important things about the villages… and sounds very pleasant music during the trip.
This was a non guided tour but it got you to great destinations without messing with trains and buses.
very good value for money,clean air conditioned tour bus,very well explained, driver tells you what time and place the pickup point is,you get decent amount of time to explore area/town,be aware,no tour guide...self guided tour, would recommend to everyone. Only drawback we had was 2 loud ladies who were late returning in bus at last town,made all of us wait 25min. I would suggest the bus driver give passengers 15min max grace period to be late if not contacted and given valid reason!
I would not call this a tour…it was merely bus transportation. A booklet was provided in your choice of language with instructions to download a map of the different cities however our phones were not functioning and we were left without any info. There was no guide, the driver could not speak English, and we were dropped off in a railway station without a word.
It is really hard to get to Ostuni by bus or train with convenient arrival and departure timing. So this tour was perfect. The drop off locations were convenient and easy to get back too. The time at each city was good, we had enough time to walk to every area we wanted and also to enjoy a meal or snack. The bus was comfortable and the driver was nice.
Polignano is a beautiful city. Unfortunately the information in the brochure for where to meet the bus was incorrect. However once they were contacted the information was quickly sent to us. Ostuni and Locorotondo were OK, but less time at these two places would be better. I am glad we visited these towns although the self tour was somewhat confusing. Seeing more of the area on the drive was very interesting. All in all it was an acceptable tour.
Nice day except for the music on the bus. The speaker was above us and it was too loud and scratchy noise from a bad station connection. Be sure to have a phone connection for directions to get back to the bus after out walking around. The views were beautiful and everything very interesting. Take a tuk tuk in Ostuni. You will see a lot more.
The organisation of this tour was excellent. Easy online booking and directions for the departure point in Bari. Despite the awful weather forecast (we bought a couple of ponchos on the bus - well used during the tour) the tour was really enjoyable. I might have preferred to visit Monopoli rather than Polignano (following Lolita Lobosco scenes) . The day was long but it was an excellent way of seeing a lot of Puglia in a short space of time without the hassle of driving, parking etc. The booklet and downloadable guide were useful but the pre-recorded commentary on the bus got a bit tedious and on this particular tour the sound system on the bus was poor - buzz at high volume and particularly bad when music was playing. Would I recommend this tour ? Definitely. And also the Alberobello and Matera tour which we did later in the week.
