Huayna Potosí (3 dagar)

We had a great experience with the team from South Treks. The guides accompanying us were friendly and made us feel comfortable at all stages of the mini expedition. While the first two days (ice axe & crampons training + hike from base camp 1 to base camp 2) were organized losely, the last night's ascent was heavily monitored by the guides, making sure the tourists were grouped by pace & condition, with check-ins every 150-200 m. Special thanks goes to Felix, an experienced guide who was in charge of our duo and took us succesfully to the top nd back down! I fully recommend the agency and their team.

We have used guides and guiding services all over the world, and I have to say this company is probably the best. Booking was so easy, and they delivered everything they said they would. Our guides were FANTASTIC. as well as our Cholita/Cocinera Teresa. Everyone was professional-- from the person I emailed before we were in Bolivia, to the booking people in La Paz, the driver, and of course the mountain staff. My 1:1 summit guide was Ramiro and was definitely the reason I was able to get to the top of Huayna Potosi. Don't hesitate to book with them. You will learn so much! Be sure that you are acclimitized, fit, and rested before you start your climb.

Loved our very experienced, safe guides ramiro, felix and frank who got us to the summit. Ramiro was the best guide we have had anywhere in the world. We and 5 others were trained by him and Felix the day before summiting. Summit night was extremely tough, but ramiro and frank motivated my wife and me to continue. My wife was scared to death on so many sections but ramiro kept her safe. This company was so organized. Lastly, thank you Teresa, thecholita cocinera who prepared fresh delicious meals for us

I didn't actually climb Huayna Potosi with South Trek but wanted to leave a good review for the front office in La Paz. The day before I was scheduled to climb with South Trek I discovered that both the guide and other climber that I would be making the trek with were both only able to speak Spanish but that another company had several English speaking climbers and guides. They surprisingly gave my money back, allowing me to go with the other company and likely have a much less lonely experience. They didn't have to do this. Much respect to them for doing so! My trek with a rival company was very memorable, one of the most amazing experiences of my life but it would never have happened if my money hadn't been refunded. Good on you South Treks!

All in all - a well organized tour

Did the 3 day Huyana Potosi your and it was Amazing. The guides, Esteban, Alan and Rami were all great. The gear my group and I received all seemed in good and working condition. We didn't have everything we needed day 1 but we were able to get the rest day 2 before setting off. The guides are great and all really motivating and nice, but they don't actually speak English. This is fine, I speak decent Spanish so I actually enjoyed speaking with them in Spanish but if you don't I wouldn't freak out. Rami who joined on the last night to explain the summit plan spoke some English and was very good at explaining things visually and as long as you have someone in your group who speaks a little Spanish you'll be fine. We had 7 people and 4 guides for summit day and they were all very pofessional The actual climb itself is really fun. There are a couple of scrambling sections and 1 super steel and narrow section where you have to properly use your ice axe. Then the final ridge to the summit feels amazing One downside to the 3 day tour is you spend an awful lot of time at base camp on the first and second day. You don't actually leave to high camp until 12 the next day, so bring a book or something if you decide to do 3 days. You could probably also skip the 3 day and do the 2 day. The ice climbing is fun but you don't actually need it and it's probably not worth hanging around for so long just to do 2 minute of ice climbing and you can learn how to use the crampons on the summit day, they're easy. Of course if you're worried about aclimitisation the extra day at base camp will help

We had a really nice 3 day trip to the Huayna Potosi with Max as our guide! He was very helpful and took really good care of us. We would highly recommend him. The communication in the office however, wasn't the best. Up the mountain, it was much better. However, in the end it seems it doesn't really matter which company you choose, since we were all in the same hut and grouped together with others from another company. We also payed much more than other tourists, who seemed to have the same equipment and same accommodation. We naivly hope the price difference implies the guides are better paid. Let's hope. Anyway, we enjoyed this experience a lot. Beware you need a very good physical condition to take the trip!

We made Huayna Potosí in three days. The first day we were followed by Valerio guide, while the second and third Umberto guide. With both of us we felt very good, they were professional and punctual. Umberto in the climb did not stop asking us how we were doing and continually motivated us to reach the top. It was a very positive experience. Meals were many and plentiful and the staff always smiling and helpful. I would improve the quality of the boots that caused pain in my shins during the climb. Everything else was good and, following the guide's recommendations, we did not suffer the cold.

The trip was very well organized. Everything went according to plan. The guide was competent and friendly, the owner and the agency staff - very friendly and helpful. I can safely recommend them. Next time I will definitely use their services.

I really want to recommend South Trecks if you want to climb Huyana Potosí. We did the 3-day tour. It was a tough challenge but the guides supported us in an incredibly good way and we managed to get to the top. In retrospect, one of the coolest things we have ever done and we are happy that we dared to take on this challenge. Special thanks to our guide Felix who had a 24-year experience climbing the mountain. He was incredibly helpful and nice to us.
