Al Khor är en kuststad i norra Qatar, belägen cirka 50 kilometer från huvudstaden Doha. Som en av de största städerna i landet är Al Khor hem för många arbetare inom oljeindustrin, tack vare sin närhet till Qatars norra olje- och naturgasfält, liksom Ras Laffan Industrial City. Staden är också en av de föreslagna platserna för fotbolls-VM 2022 i Qatar.
Purple Island, även kallad Al Khor Island, är ett pittoreskt läge i Al Khor, ungefär en timmes bilresa från Doha. Denna lilla ö är förbunden med fastlandet genom en smal bro, som avbryts på flera ställen för att låta vattnet strömma in i mangroveskogen.

Al Zubara, även kallad Fort Zubara, är ett historiskt qatariskt militärt fäste som byggdes under överinseende av shejk Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani 1938.
Al Jumail, en öde pärl- och fiskebosättning belägen i nordöstra delen av Qatar, grundades på 1800-talet och förblev bebodd fram till början av 1900-talet, innan olje- och gasindustrin utlöste en ekonomisk omvandling. Byns namn härstammar från det arabiska ordet "jameel", som betyder "vacker", vilket syftar på träden som trivs i regionen året runt. Som noterats på Wikipedia fick George Barnes Brucks på 1820-talet i uppdrag att genomföra den första brittiska kartläggningen av Persiska viken. Han dokumenterade Al Jumail i sin undersökning och hänvisade till det som "Yamale".

Really beautiful experience! The private tour in northern Qatar was excellently organized and allowed us to discover authentic and fascinating places. Zubara Fort is rich in history and very atmospheric, while Purple Island and mangroves are an unexpected and relaxing corner of nature. Special thanks to Taj Mohammad, a professional guide, kind and always available, who made the experience even more enjoyable with his explanations and attention. A tour absolutely recommended!
