Få chansen att besöka platsen för Herculaneum under guidning av en arkeolog. Lär dig mer om denna antika romerska stad, bebodd av köpmän och adel, vars liv slutade dramatiskt snabbt år 79 e.Kr. Guiden kommer att visa dig vattnet där mer än 300 rester av människor som försökte fly till sjöss hittades, men också det samnitiska huset, termalbaden, Augustaletemplet, forumet, Neptunus och Amphitrites hus, Gymnasium , träväggens hus och mycket mer. Du kommer att få en intensiv upplevelse: du kan se inte bara sten, marmor och keramik kvar, utan också förkolat trä och ännu mer utsökta målningar och mosaiker än i Pompei. Herculaneum förstördes av en mycket kraftfullare kraft som omedelbart brände allt trä och begravde staden under ett tjockt lager som inte lät luften gå igenom och orsaka förfall.

Mötesplats är biljettkontoret i Herculaneum-ruinerna. Du kan komma dit som följer: - Med bil i via Pignalver (Det finns en bevakad parkering mycket nära mötesplatsen) - Med tåg i Corso Resina 1 (tågstationen Circumvesuviana ligger 10 minuters promenad bort)
Huset får sitt namn från marmorstatyer av stag / hjort som finns i peristylen.
M. Nonius Balbus var stadens största välgörare och restaurerade många offentliga byggnader. Vid hans död blev han skyddare och feted med många hedrar, detaljerad i den långa inskriften på hans begravnings altare.
Det anses att byggnaden var ett centrum för kejsarens Augustus kult och huvudkontoret för Collegium Augustalium (eller möjligen även den lokala curiaen).
Huset tillhörde kanske en av stadens ledande välgörare, Marcus Nonius Balbus, och är något ovanligt, eftersom den har egen privat tillgång till den angränsande Suburban Thermae i söder.
Det är mycket viktigt hus för den eleganta träpartitionen kvar.
Skelets hus, troligen aggregeringen av tre mindre byggnader, härleder sitt namn från upptäckten av mänskliga kvarlevor i ett andra vånings rum 1831.
De centrala terméerna byggdes runt början av 1800-talet och delades, som vanligt i praktiken, in i mäns och kvinnors badkar, var och en med egna separata ingångar.
House of the Black Hall är en av Herculaneums mer lyxiga herrgårdar. Huset har en monumental ingång som fortfarande bevarar de kolsyrade kvarnen av dörrpostarna och kanten.
Huset har ett arrangemang som var typiskt för Samnitesna (ett forntida folk i Sabine-tävlingen som ockuperade denna bergiga del av centrala Italien). Det fantastiska atriumet är skirtat av ett galleri med joniska kolonner. Rummen är inredda med fresker.
Detta är ett av de mest ursprungliga husen i Herculaneum. Den har en innergård med en trappa och en sten balkong i stället för ett atrium.
Vacker domus i centrum av det arkeologiska området, med olika miljöer, collonnati, fresker e-com överallt vid Herculaneum-förkolnade resterna av trädelar.

I booked this tour with an archeologist for an expert's view of the remains of Herculaneum. The guide, Francesco, did NOT deliver. It was a hot August day (not a surprise, we all knew the weather) and I think he was just hot and tired. The group was split between 2 different guides, and I was unfortunately in the group with the weaker guide. I hope this review will help future participants. The tour started slightly late (10:38 instead of 10:30), and he started the tour in the 2 museums (with AC). That would have been better to save until the end, no? Then, he gave superficial explanations that are written on placards next to the displays. We didn't enter the archeological remains until 50 minutes into the 2 hour tour. Then, he continued slowly repeating useless comments like, "Look at the decorations, just like we see today!" He spoke a lot about Pompeii and didn't seem to know any in-depth archeological, historical or anecdotal facts about Herculaneum. I've been on MANY tours including with archeologists. Sadly, this was a waste of time and money. He ended the tour promptly at 12:30 telling us that we'd seen everything there was to see. Thankfully I didn't believe him. At the visitor center there is a 1 Euro audio guide and a free brochure for download. I returned to the ruins and did a more thorough exploration on my own. I must say, it was better than the tour with the "archeologist".

Amazing tour with Luciano. Incredibly knowledgeable and had a great way to bring stories to life and feel like you were immersed in the surroundings. A very well preserved site and an excellent way to understand the history of what happened here.
Our guide was knowlegeable and kept us interested and engaged throughout the tour. He answered questions and provided context and background for us to better understand the significance of what we saw. Very happy with the tour as well as the price!
Very positive experience. The archaeologist was tremendously knowledgeable. We learned so much, and while it was a hot day, we felt history came alive for us.
A nice experience with a good guide. More exciting than Pompeii. Worth a visit. Few tourists is a plus. A bit difficult with subway arrival unfortunately. This should be the preferred method of arrival but then the subway and info must be corrected
We booked our tour through Askos Tours. The meeting point was easily found as they sent us not only directions but a photo of it. Our guide, Luciano Leone, was absolutely exceptional! He made sure this wasn't a tour but a memorable, detailed, heartbreaking, living experience. You do have to have a quick pace to see everything on this tour but it was well worth it. So much of what was extricated was intact, it was unbelievable. The sight of the skeletons in the waterfront boathouses was heart-wrenching. We did this tour after seeing Pompeii (not the same day.) We are so glad we did both. Apples and Oranges. You cannot compare the two. You need to experience both.
WOW! What an amazing experience and wonderful tour. Our guide was Sergio and he is a real archiologist who has worked on digs here and in Pompeii. He explained so much about the history of the Romans who lived there when the volcano erupted, how is it very different from Pompeii, and he inlcuded a lot of information about the discovery of the site and how it was excavated. If you only think you want to see Pompeii, you are wrong. Add in Herculaneum. After the tour was over, we had time to go to the museum there and it had many things on display that Sergio told us about, so we understood the significance. We went in mid-May and we had a bit of rain, but carrying umbrellas served us well. This site has such wonderfully preserved lumber and frescos, so it is a real jewel and the tour guide made so much difference in our understanding of what we were seeing. Afterwards, we stopped at a hamburger joint. After 2 weeks in Italy, we were missing some American food and that hit the spot. It is between the site and the train station. The owner was so friendly!
Most interesting tour - lots of info and provided with earpiece to hear the guide. Small group. Thoroughly enjoyable morning - with be reading up on this. The guide is an experienced archeologist and we really felt we benefitted from his expertise.
The guide was very enthusiastic about the subject having worked on the site and Pompeii as well as other sites around the World. He explained the timeline of the eruption and the difference between the two sites. Well worth having a guide to show and explain things not in the standard guide book, but it was obvious that the whole site would take a great deal longer to look around and from the walkway above the site we saw there were many more buildings we hadn’t explored with Luciano. Would recommend getting on an early tour especially in the heat!! All in all very enjoyable and well worth the money, although I guess may depend which guide you get!!
