Avoid Stromma if you value your time, especially on a cruise port stop. This was hands down the worst hop-on hop-off experience we’ve ever had and completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable day in Helsinki. We took their bus from the port into the city center, only to spend 72 minutes standing in the rain with a growing crowd of frustrated passengers waiting for another bus that never seemed to come — meanwhile, buses from the competing company kept arriving with no issue. When we finally got moving again, things somehow got worse. Just two stops later, the driver abruptly pulled over and sat there for 20 more minutes because he needed a break. No explanation, no communication, no idea what was happening until the wait was over. At that point, we no longer felt comfortable getting off to explore because we had zero confidence we’d make it back to our ship on time. What should have been a fun day exploring Helsinki turned into a stressful, expensive waste of money. To make matters worse, they also operate in Stockholm, and several of our shipmates reported having equally terrible experiences there. Save yourself the frustration and book with literally anyone else.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We are very sorry to hear that your visit did not meet expectations and apologise for the inconvenience and uncertainty you experienced during your day. Our Hop On Hop Off buses operate every 30–40 minutes depending on the day, and delays may occasionally occur due to traffic, events, or other operational factors. The stop you describe was likely at our main stop, where a short break is scheduled before the next tour begins, and we apologise that this was not clearly communicated at the time. All feedback is important to us and we would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your experience. Please feel free to contact us at sales@stromma.fi or +358 9 2288 1600 so we can follow up with you directly.
Hope for better weather. Cold, overcast day. Good chance to visit some out-of-the-way places which deserve a look.
Nice ride through the city. Too bad that when you sit on the right side of the bus you see little of the shortened winter tour. The 2 longer stops were not that exciting. The sauna?
Well-structured tour with good audio guide in Italian although more suitable for the snow-free climate. Considering that today it was snowing and raining it went very well! View the city effortlessly.
Great way to see a different part of the City. The bus was still a little cold in winter but if you’re bundled up it was fine.
Long enough to see the main monuments. 2 nice stops to take pictures. Audio guide in French
Good to get an overall view and impression of the city. Not enough commentary and not always sinked. One part said welcome back from the Rock church but we had not even stopped there, and in fact didn't even see it from the bus.
The recorded commentary was interesting not boring. The two stops were just the right length to walk around a little, take a couple photos, and use toilet if needed, without getting too cold (at least on the day I took the tour). The length and departure time of the tour were ideal as well.
You come around in a ring in Helsinki and get seen a little, yeah. But the talk is the tape. Where there come some comments continuously. So you give 30€ to hear a tape recording. In addition, it is some boring stops one makes. At a sauna, where only 5 out of 35 can get to buy a coffee. And 10 minutes at a sculpture that takes 1 minute to photograph, but not enough time to pick up a coffee somewhere. You also drive a lot downtown, where you may not see so much that you had not already seen on your walk in the city.
Thank you for your review! I am sorry to hear the experience did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the tour, stops and timing are helpful, and valuable to us. We will take them into account as we continue the work to improve the tour.
Easy way to get an overview of city. It was cold outside and this was a nice way to see alit and stay warm. The stops were good.
