Gizapyramidkomplexet, även kallat Gizanekropolen, är platsen på Gizaplatån i Storkairo, Egypten som omfattar den stora pyramiden i Giza, Khafrepyramiden och Menkaurepyramiden, tillsammans med deras tillhörande pyramidkomplex och den stora sfinxen i Giza. Alla byggdes under den fjärde dynastin av det gamla kungadömet Egypten. Platsen ligger i utkanten av Västra öknen, cirka 9 km väster om Nilen i staden Giza, och cirka 13 km sydväst om Kairos centrum. Den stora pyramiden och Khafrepyramiden är de största pyramiderna som byggdes i det forntida Egypten, och de har historiskt varit vanliga som emblem för det forntida Egypten i västerländsk fantasi. De populariserades i hellenistisk tid, när den stora pyramiden listades av Antipater av Sidon som en av världens sju underverk. Det är det äldsta av de gamla underverken och det enda som fortfarande existerar.
Khafres pyramidkomplex består av ett daltempel, sfinxtemplet, en bro, ett bårhustempel och kungens pyramid. Daltemplet gav flera statyer av Khafre. Flera hittades i en brunn i golvet i templet av Mariette 1860. Andra hittades under successiva utgrävningar av Sieglin (1909–10), Junker, Reisner.
Khufus pyramidkomplex består av ett daltempel, nu begravt under byn Nazlet el-Samman; diabasbeläggningar och nummulitiska kalkstensmurar har hittats men platsen har inte grävts ut. Daltemplet var kopplat till en bro som till stor del förstördes när byn byggdes.
Gizas stora sfinx, även kallad Gizas sfinx, är en kalkstensstaty av en liggande sfinx, en mytisk varelse med lejonkropp och människohuvud. Den vetter direkt från väst till öst och står på Gizaplatån på Nilens västra strand i Giza, Egypten. Sfinxens ansikte tros allmänt representera faraon Khafre. Sfinxens ursprungliga form är utskuren ur berggrunden och har återställts med lager av block. Den mäter 73 m (240 fot) lång från tass till svans, 20 m hög från basen till toppen av huvudet och 19 m bred vid dess bakre hasar. Det är den äldsta kända monumentala skulpturen i Egypten och tros allmänt ha byggts av forntida egyptier i Gamla riket under farao Khafres regeringstid (ca. 2558–2532 F.KR.).
Fortsätt sedan din dagstur till Sakkara, som ligger bara 27 km sydväst om Kairo. Besök Step Pyramid (byggd för kung Zoser), anses det vara en viktig del av processen för pyramidens evolution, som gjordes från den enkla mastaba till dess allmänt kända form.
Menkaures pyramidkomplex består av ett daltempel, en gångväg, ett bårhustempel och kungens pyramid. Daltemplet innehöll en gång flera statyer av Menkaure. Under den femte dynastin byggdes ett mindre antetempel på daltemplet. Begravningstemplet gav också flera statyer av Menkaure.
Unaspyramiden tillhör kung Unas och är känd för att innehålla de tidigaste kända religiösa inskriptionerna inuti en pyramid, kallad pyramidtexterna. Dessa hieroglyfiska trollformler ristades på väggarna för att hjälpa kungen att resa säkert till livet efter detta och förena sig med gudarna.
Iduts grav är en vackert dekorerad grav i Saqqara Necropolis som tillhörde prinsessan Idut, dotter till kung Unas. Graven är känd för sina färgglada reliefscener som visar det dagliga livet i det forntida Egypten, inklusive jordbruk, fiske och erbjuder ritualer för livet efter detta.
Tetipyramiden byggdes för kung Teti. Även om pyramiden ser liten och förstörd ut från utsidan idag, var den en gång ett viktigt kungligt monument i Saqqara Necropolis.
Memfis var Egyptens forntida huvudstad under Gamla riket, grundat av kung Menes. Det var ett stort politiskt, religiöst och kommersiellt centrum, känt för Ptahtemplet och kungliga gravar. Idag är Memphis en viktig arkeologisk plats med ruiner och statyer, inklusive den massiva statyn av Ramses II.

We took a half day tour to Pyramids and Sphinx in the March of 2026 Our tour guide was Moaaz! And it was the best one we ever had. He brought us through some essential points of Epygt history. He joked a lot, talked with us about some interesting topics like who built pyramids and why. We also got some incredible photos, that’s our personal recommendation after the guide he took us through some of the best local souvenir shops like papyrus, oils, tea, etc Thank you Moaaz for making our short stay in Cairo unforgettable.
