Din resa börjar vid parkens entréstation, Volcano, HI. Först går vi rakt igenom entréporten och utforskar området kring besökscentret. Notera: Turen är över 24,5 miles lång, med mer än 43 ljudberättelser, och tar ca 2 - 3 timmar att slutföra. Nytt, livstidsåtkomst, ingen utgång. Använd den när som helst, på vilken resa som helst, så många gånger du vill.
Det är en rekreationsanläggning för soldater, men dess historia var inte bara rolig och lek. Under andra världskriget blev detta ett interneringsläger inte bara för krigsfångar utan även för oskyldiga japanska medborgare.
Ångventiler skapas av värmen från vulkanen Kilauea, som värmer grundvatten som är fångat i underjordiska fickor. Ångan som stiger upp från ventilerna är en indikator på vulkanens underjordiska aktivitet.
Det är här den korta men söta Sulphur Banks Trail börjar. Tja, jag säger sött... men det är en lögn. Det luktar faktiskt väldigt mycket!
Den här platsen ser ut över det helt enkelt häpnadsväckande och är en av de platser som måste ses i parken. Även om kratern inte ser ut som en typisk vulkan, är den faktiskt en av de mest aktiva i hela världen!
Den här leden leder direkt genom Kilauea Iki-kratern! Det är en slinga på 3,3 mil som tar cirka tre timmar, men höjdförändringen kan vara ansträngande.
Thurston Lava Tube bildades för över 500 år sedan när smält lava strömmade genom området och skapade en tunnelliknande grotta när lavan på utsidan svalnade och stelnade medan lavan på insidan fortsatte att rinna. Resultatet är ett unikt grottsystem som besökarna kan utforska idag.
Luamanu-kratern var en gång fylld av en tät skog... men det förändrades på bara en dag.
Puhimau Crater är ett vulkaniskt inslag som ligger i Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, och om resenärer bokar en upplevelse för att besöka den kan de bevittna de unika geologiska formationerna som skapats av vulkanisk aktivitet.
Pauahi-kratern är en brant-sidig gropkrater som bildades av explosiv vulkanisk aktivitet. Kratern är cirka 330 fot djup och 1 000 fot i diameter, och den är känd för sina intressanta geologiska egenskaper, såsom lavastänken och fumarolerna, som avger ånga och gaser.
Pu'u Huluhulu är en askekon, precis som Pu'upua'i. Namnet betyder "hårig kulle" eftersom låga buskar har växt över den, vilket ger den ett flummigt utseende på avstånd.
Kipukas bildas när ett lavaflöde omger ett område med äldre vegetation, och med tiden kan denna vegetation fortsätta att frodas och skapa en unik livsö mitt i ett kargt lavafält. Dessa kipukas har ofta sitt eget mikroklimat, med olika jordtyper och fuktnivåer än det omgivande området, vilket möjliggör tillväxt av olika växtarter.
Denna upphöjda plattform erbjuder panoramautsikt över Mauna Ulus lavaflöde. Det är mestadels platt och grått, men leta efter de paddsvampformade formationerna.
Pu'u Loa Petroglyphs är en historisk plats i Hawaii Volcanoes National Park på Big Island of Hawaii. Om resenärer bokar en upplevelse för att besöka Pu'u Loa Petroglyphs, kan de se över 23 000 gamla hällristningar etsade in i den härdade lavastenen.

This was way better than spending $280 for a tour, informative, easy to follow, at your own pace etc. only thing that would have been nice is if it would work in reverse.

It was very interesting. We enjoyed hearing the history of area. Try to make it to the arch by the sea, it was worth the drive. The app was able to keep track of where we were on our drive with gps even if we went out of order?

The self tour was informative. It could be a little more user friendly. But if you're heading up the volcano, it's very nice to have and worth the money.

Very easy and informative audio tour if you haven’t planned for your Volcanoes NP visit and activities. NP app also includes a tour option, also self-paced, but not audio(facts must be read on the NP app). NP app is free but this one is fairly low cost. Both have their merits.
