Omgivningarna i staden Alicante, regionen l'Alacantí, är ett halvtorrt område vid foten av bergen som begränsar detta territorium. Tidigare jordbruk och bostadsturism idag har förändrat området, blandat gammalt och modernt i en unik enklav. Canalobre-grottorna är en naturskatt gömd i hjärtat av berget. Inte långt borta, och lämnar vakttornen i Xixona och Busot bakom oss, hittar vi en viktig produkt i vårt julfirande, Nougat. Xixona är nougatens vagga; en produkt som ärvts från den arabiska kulturen, som är en symbol för Alicantes konfektyr och viktig på vårt bord vid jul. Vi kommer att upptäcka dess hemligheter och prova denna unika produkt.
Vi kommer att fokusera på att upptäcka den intressanta historien om Las Cuevas del Canelobre med en guidad rundtur i det besökbara rummet inne i grottorna.
Slottet, som tidigare kallades "Bisant", ligger norr om staden på toppen av en kulle. Det är av muslimskt ursprung och tros härstamma från 1100-talet, liksom stadens grund. Fästningen var en del av Alicantes försvarssystem
Det heliga ansiktets kloster, även känt som Veronica-klostret, är klostret där reliken av det heliga ansiktet har förvarats i 500 år
Sant JOAN AZUD, som korsar det som nu är ett bostadsområde, hittar vi en infrastruktur som kan leda vatten till kusten och som fungerade fram till mitten av artonhundratalet

Cancelled the trip for no reason by email at short notice, but not cancelled on Viator app. Viator didn’t know what was going on and said not cancelled really. Phoned operator who said they had cancelled because of the weather, which was perfect! No refund as yet.

The monastery of Faz was the most interesting stop on the journey. We had no idea that the relic they have was here in Alicante. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic throughout our experience making it all that more enjoyable! Also loved visiting the cave and the Turrón factory/museum and the little town of Busot and the Museum of Music they have there.

Ivar was a very excellent narrator, he told us about the things we drove past and we got a great insight into the lives of the Spaniards. He talked about nougat production from the past to the present. We learned a lot about the caves.
Hands down, this was probably the best private tour I have ever been on! Ivan is extremely knowledgeable and friendly! I learnt so much about Alicante and some history from Ivan. The Turron (nougat) museum was pretty interesting and I'm glad I did this tour because I probably would have never visited this museum and understood how Turron is different from Nougat (and actually better!). The caves were just amazing! Looking at the mountains, you wouldn't really think that there were these amazing caves. We also visited Buscot and walked up to the remains of the castle. There were stunning views from the top and Ivan explained the history behind the castles and how they were positioned and built. I really enjoyed this tour and I would probably visit Alicante again just to do more tours with Ivan. It was actually my birthday on the day that we did this tour and this tour made it so much more enjoyable! So thank you Ivan for an amazing birthday!
