Our tour of Hakodate Japan: Every once in a great while we end up with an exceptional guide. This was one of those rare times. Keiko, our guide, was more than just a local expert. She showed genuine concern for her tour meeting our needs. She even added a last-minute drive out of town to view cherry blossoms that are only in bloom for 7-10 days. She found a day earlier that they were in full bloom and offered us the opportunity to see them outside of our planned itinerary. The blossom tour was unexpected and did not disappoint. We were lucky to have seen them. (see photos) One of the reasons we booked this tour was because it included car transportation. Our walking abilities are not what they once were so this format was appealing. Keiko's car was clean and she drove safely and confidently to numerous sites throughout the city, asking repeatedly if there were other things we wanted to see. We opted to have a seafood lunch at one of the many Morning Market restaurants and she acted as our interpretor to ensure that we got what we wanted. We ended up with an excellent meal. (see photo) After lunch, at our request, Keiko took us to see the old churches and visit the Red Brick Warehouses. Afterward, she returned us to our ship right on time. We could not have asked for a better experience. We HIGHLY recommend Keiko for your Hakodate tour.
5 Star experience highly recommend. Masuda was friendly, informative and went out of her way to accommodate our requests.
Our guide, Keiko, was terrific! We really enjoyed seeing the amazing sites of Hakodate with her. Our tour could not have been better.
Excellent tour that takes in all the highlights with a knowlageable local guide who is flexible to the travellers requests.
Ms Keiko was an excellent guide. Although she was relatively new to guiding, she lived in the city and was very familiar with the area. She attended college in the US for a few months and her English was excellent. She gave us many unique experiences such as lunch in a 7-11 type store with 3 cooks making local hot/fresh food as well as an active bakery. Even had tables to sit while eating. Visited monkeys soaking in hot water pool who were also very skilled in catching tossed food pellets. These sites were in addition to the more usual/common associated with local tours. We enjoyed the day with Ms Keiko very much. In addition to her guidance, she was a delightful young woman. She exceeded our expectations for the day.
We loved our tour of Hakodate and Lake Onuma, so relaxing and enjoyable to be driven around and see through the eyes of a local. The flexibility was great. Hakodate is an amazing place to stay.
Masaki-san was simply exceptional! He picked us up directly from the port, where we were cruising with Royal Caribbean, and offered us an amazing day in Hakodate. The tour was perfectly organized, and Masaki knew how to adapt to all our wishes. He introduced us to beautiful places, full of history and exciting stories about the city. We even had the chance to visit Mount Hakodate, with spectacular views, and it found us a great place to buy second-hand kimonos — a magical moment for the whole family! Masaki-san is not only a thoughtful and professional guide, but also a person of great kindness. We already miss him! It’s a shame he lives so far away, because we would surely have become friends.❤️ I highly recommend this excursion to anyone who wants to discover Hakodate differently, with a real passionate local.
We had a great time. Our guide Keiko was an excellent host and driver and spoke good English. We went to Onuma National Park, the scenery was great, the fall leaves were turning colors and the lake was beautiful. We took about an hour walk along the paths in the park. We also went to the top of Mt. Hakodate, the view from there was incredible. We also went to the Goryokaku fort and the nearby art museum. We had lunch at the Lucky Pierrot restaurant which is a renowned local hamburger joint. Highly recommend this tour especially for the trip out to the park.
We had a great day in Hakodate with Masaki as our guide. We don't usually like to visit all the "top" sites and Masaki tailored our tour that really suited us. He was easy to understand, gave us great information about history, what local life is like, and provided a narrative as we drove between locations. I would highly recommend him as a tour guide!
We felt like we got a good overview of the city, hitting all of the major highlights. We enjoyed it very much.
