Det kungliga palatskomplexet grundades 1782 och består inte bara av kungliga salar och tronsalar, utan också ett antal regeringskontor samt det berömda Smaragdbuddhans tempel. Den täcker en yta på 218 000 kvadratmeter och omges av fyra murar, 1900 meter långa. Efter att kung Rama I besteg tronen 1782 byggdes palatset. Dessförinnan hade det kungliga palatset och administrationscentrumet legat i Thonburi, på västra stranden av floden Chao Phraya. Av olika skäl ansåg den nya kungen att den tidigare huvudstaden var olämplig och beslutade att grunda en ny huvudstad på andra sidan floden. På hans kungliga befallning byggdes ett palats som inte bara skulle tjäna som hans bostad utan också som plats för administrativa kontor. Den kungliga anläggningen är sedan dess känd som Kungliga slottet. De två tidigaste byggnaderna som uppfördes inom komplexet var Dusit Haha Prasat Throne Hall och Phra Maha Monthian.

Awesome experience. If you are interested in the history of this site, I would definitely recommend the guide option. If I didn't have the guide, I never would of learned anything about this historical site.

I hired a guide who unfortunately didn't speak very good English, I hardly understood the explanation of the place, although she was kind. And the temple was beautiful.

Private transfer was on time, smooth and safe. It is the best to get a private transfers when you are for the first time in Bangkok. A driver was very polite.

I opted for this service, because wrangling kids out the door is hard enough. We paid about twice what the simple tickets would be. Our driver had trouble finding us even though we were standing outside the address I provided (and confirmed) and he wasn't particularly friendly. The person we were meeting to take is into the palace was late, so the driver had to drive around the block then told us to hurry and get out of the car (because it wasnt a stopping area). The lady who brought us inside rushed us through the front area, took a quick family picture then took off. Previous to this they had suggested we pay for a tour (up selling). Last, after I checked my phone again I see I had received several messages from the tour operator saying the driver couldn't find us and would wait "five more minutes". These were sent up to a half hour after we actually got into the car. Not really a good value for the money we spent.
