På en stenig kulle som är svår att nå, ligger vid floden Darro, skyddad av berg och omgiven av skog, bland de äldsta kvarteren i staden, Alhambra som ett imponerande slott med röda toner i sina vallar som förhindrar omvärlden från att se den känsliga skönheten de bifogar. Ursprungligen utformad som ett militärt område blev Alhambra residens för kungligheter och av Granada-domstolen i mitten av det trettonde århundradet, efter etableringen av Nasrid-riket och byggandet av det första palatset, av grundaren kung Mohammed ibn Yusuf Ben Nasr, mer känd som Alhamar. Fästningen blev en citadell med höga vallar och defensiva torn, som rymmer två huvudområden: militärområdet eller Alcazaba, den kungliga vaktens kaserner och medina eller domstolsbyen, de berömda Nasridpalatsernas läge och resterna av de adelshusens och plebeernas hus som bodde där.
Generalife består av en serie stora trädgårdar, där varje hörn rymmer en nyhet och en trevlig överraskning för ögonen, med minst obtrusiva byggnader.
Alcazaba tjänstgjorde tydligt en militär funktion. Ingången till Alcazaba var vid foten av hemmets torn. Vid botten av tornet är en liten sluttning. En enkel L-formad gångväg håller huvudporten synlig från utsidan.
Granadas kungars vanliga residens, deras konstruktion började i början av 1300-talet. Nasridpalatsen är ett palatsliknande komplex som består av tre byggnader: – Mexuaren är den äldsta hallen. Den användes för möten mellan kungens ministrar och som rättssal. - Därefter kommer vi till Palace of Comares, som går tillbaka till Yusuf I:s era. Denna bostad uppfördes runt Patio de los Arrayanes (myrternas innergård), och dess sidoutgångar leder till Sala de los Embajadores ( Hall of Ambassadors) och Sala de la Barca (Båtens hall). – Lejonpalatset, med anor från Muhammed V:s era, är också ett kungligt residens. Den består av en central innergård, Lions innergård, och salar längs varje sida, Mocarabernas Hall, Kings Hall, Hall of the Two Sisters, Hall of the Ajimeces, som leder vidare till miradoren. The staff at the meeting point were great , polite, patient and well organized.. the setup for our timed visit to the Nasrid palace was perfect. It is entirely worthy !! but … We just didn’t enjoyed the audioguide. Unable to set it loud enough to cover the ambient noise . Also It was hard to follow / match where we were with the audioguide , because a lot of room looked the same… But personally, I would not take a fully guided tour with a group, that would be too painful for me .
Admission fee, flexibility in when taking the tour with little ones in tow were priceless!

Buy official tickets for 22 euro including places. 1065856619 Don’t buy these reseller marked up tickets The official site sells an adult ticket for 22 euro including palaces. I’d highly recommend the palaces. Google this to get the official site (trip advisor blocks sharing links) alhambra-patronato.es The .org site that is the second hit on Google is 3-4x the actual price — which is about 22 euro in June 2026

The Alhambra is an absolutely stunning place and one of the highlights of our trip to Spain. The palaces, gardens, and incredible architecture are truly breathtaking. Everything inside the complex is well worth visiting, and we had an amazing experience once we got in. The only issue was the ticket collection process. We booked through Tripadvisor, with the tour operated by GRANAVISIÓN – Movviendo Tourism Group. The booking instructions were not clear that the tickets needed to be collected from the operator's office rather than the official Alhambra ticket office. We went to the Alhambra ticket office first and then had to find the operator's office, which was stressful and took extra time. Despite this inconvenience, the Alhambra itself is magnificent and absolutely worth visiting. Just make sure you know exactly where to collect your tickets before you go.

Site to visit absolutely, magnificent. Audioguide clearly audible in French, but the explanations were not precise enough during the movements. Beautiful experience nonetheless. Majestic Nasrid Palace.

This facility allows for a time travel experience that, no matter which part of the Alhambra is being visited, fills one with awe and wonder. Of course, I would recommend everyone to definitely include the Nasrid Palaces in their visit. One of the most beautiful and impressive examples of architecture I have ever seen.

Very LONG day full of walking and lots of stairs and uneven walkways. Amazing areas to see and so much to learn about Andalucian culture and history. Our 9 & 11 year old granddaughters enjoyed seeing it- unfortunately we visited on one of the hottest days (100’F). Take plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, and wear good tennies or walking shoes. Areas to buys snacks, water, and souvenirs. We had been before about 16 years ago- much easier when we were younger😉.

Our guide Carlos Fuente was excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly, and with his passion, he conveyed his knowledge about the history of the Alhambra to us. I recommend him. He deserves a 10 and praise.

A must to visit, take on good shoes and be careful to meet on time if you have booked the visit on time, they are very accurate. Picking up tickets purchased on TripAdvisor was easy with very good help and tips. Calculate good time and bring water. Easy food is available at the Alhambra.
