Den stora sfinxen i Giza är ett av de mest ikoniska monumenten i Egypten och världen. Det är en kalkstensstaty med lejonkropp och huvud av en man, som tros föreställa farao Khafre (byggare av den andra pyramiden i Giza). Sfinxen är cirka 73 meter lång och 20 meter hög, vilket gör den till den största monolitiska statyn från antiken. Den vetter direkt österut, mot den uppgående solen, och sågs som en mäktig väktare av Gizaplatån. Statyn är mer än 4 500 år gammal (från omkring 2500 f.Kr.). Den saknade näsan och skägget är berömda mysterier – de flesta historiker tror att de förstördes under senare perioder.

We had an incredible experience visiting the Giza Pyramids. Seeing these ancient wonders in person was unforgettable.
