I booked this experience for my foody sister-in-law whilst the whole family were travelling around Sri Lanka. My sister-in-law and wife absolutely loved the whole experience, and have yet to find a better Sri Lankan meal
We had a fabulous time during our afternoon with Madhu. We were collected from our accomodation and met Madhu at the vegetable market, where she explained textures and flavours of some veg that were new to us, before we selected our ingredients for the curries. We were then welcomed to her beautiful home, where she explained the features of their outdoor kitchen, including some equipment that has been passed through generations! Madhu is a great teacher, very warm, patient and explains things clearly. She talked us through the processes her family use to prepare their homemade oils and coconut milks, before we cooked 11 tasty curries and sat down to an amazing feast! This day was a highlight of our trip and I really can’t recommend Madhu highly enough.
Very authentic, in home cooking class delivered by Madhu and her team. Great instruction and participation with our group of six taken to local markets to gather fresh vegetables, spices and meat before cooking and eating a delicious combination of Sri Lankan dishes. A great experience, thank you Madhu.
This cooking master class was a fantastic addition to our Sri Lankan holiday. Our host was so generous with her knowledge and hospitality. We began with a market visit where we could request to work with produce of our choosing and were then invited back to a home and traditional kitchen where we were guided through many cooking techniques using new and old equipment. The evening was interactive yet orderly and relaxing. This experience would be fantastic to any food enthusiast.
Wanting to dive deeper into Sri Lankan cuisine, my girlfriend and I signed up for this highly-rated cooking class after seeing the reviews on Tripadvisor. The experience completely exceeded our expectations. Madhu has spent years refining and perfecting her curry recipes, and it was a real privilege to learn from her and taste her cooking. Between the two of us, we've eaten at countless restaurants and love cooking ourselves, but this was honestly the richest, most flavorful meal we've ever had. The cooking portion was engaging and easy to follow, while the meal itself was simply unforgettable. It surpassed every expectation we had, and it gave us a real benchmark for what we hoped to be served for the rest of the trip.
Great introduction to Sri Lankan cooking, we enjoyed the visit to the vegetable and spice market, the food was probably the best we ate in Sri Lanka
Wonderful experience with Machu. Went to Dutch markets to select foods , then cooked a feast. She tailored the food to our needs and we felt like honoured guests in her lovely home. Very highly recommended.
Wonderful experience. It has been instructive, fun, authentic, and with an unbeatable ending: sharing an excellent meal in which you were able to participate in the preparation. I recommend it whether you like cooking or have no experience.
What an incredible experience! Galle Cooking Class One was honestly one of the absolute highlights of our Sri Lanka trip. The whole experience felt authentic, relaxed and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. We learned so much about Sri Lankan cooking, spices and local culture, while also eating some of the best food we’ve had on the trip. Safe to say we now think we’re professional curry queens 😆 The hosts were kind, patient and lovely, and made the entire day feel personal and authentic rather than touristy. Madu welcomed us into her home, cooking with her family was an incredible experience, for those few hours you have an insight into the Sri Lankan culture surrounding their food. Everything was beautifully organised, hands-on and fun, even for those of us whose usual cooking style is “add wine and hope for the best” If you’re visiting Galle, don’t miss this experience. It’s the perfect mix of food, culture, laughter and genuine connection. We left full, happy and already talking about trying to recreate the dishes at home.
I couldn’t reccomend this cooking course any more. We went shopping for fresh, local produce and then were invited into their house for a cookery course. I actually have left this course feeling like I’ve learnt something which was important for me.
