Our guide was very informative, and knowledgeable about Lithuania, Vilnius, and the Hill of Crosses. She made a few stops on the way, answered many questions, and allowed over an hour to explore the two areas with historical crosses, and crosses as memorials. The only negative was the vehicle was too small for four tall men. We had a great stop for Lithuanian lunch after the crosses.
Unique, unusually, pilgrimage place, for the rebells, martirs, who faithy against Russian authorities. As families clud not locate bodies, they start put symbolic crosses ,on a hill...Near Siauliai city
Our driver and tour operator, Andrus, delivered all the elements of the tour as advertised. It is to our loss that we failed to connect with him beyond his prepared commentary. When we went with his coworker, Jurate on the City Tour the following day it we had delightful interchange with her and a wonderful day.
I missed a message the tour was canceled because not enough people signed up and arrived at the meeting spot. The tour operator was gracious enough to arrange a private tour for me (additional cost) with Jūratė, who was an absolute gem. She explained Lithuania’s history, helped me pronounce words, and even assisted me in looking up where my grandparents lived in Lithuania. Before arriving, we stopped at the souvenir shop and I bought a cross to place on the hill of crosses in honor of my grandmother and grandfather, which was very emotional. After the tour, Jūratė took me to a traditional Lithuanian restaurant for lunch where she explained the various dishes and traditions. I can’t thank them enough for making this tour still happen for me.
Wonderful guide jurate who was very friendly and informative
Beautiful experience with the local guide. Really nice and also available to chat (as well as for more informative questions). Recommended!
I might have been the only traveler during this visit—perhaps due to the season—but it felt like a private, high-quality experience. The guide’s knowledge of the Hill of Crosses was exceptional, offering a deep dive into its moving history and significance. They also shared plenty of interesting local stories and extra information that made the trip truly special. A must-do for history lovers visiting Lithuania!
I was the only one but the tour still went ahead! Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the guide but he was fantastic. Knows many languages! Highly recommend :)
Excellent and interesting tour well worth the drive ,professional and knowledgeable guide, very well organised
We went there on a snowy day from Vilnius, fortunately the bad weather kept the buses away, only 3 cars with people respectful of silence. Those who go to this place come out with a very personal impression that you can not 'dismiss with good or bad, listen to each other and let go will be worth' the journey beyond any curiosity'.
