The guild is really able to introduce the background of Yatai and its history.. definitely amazing experiences.
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're delighted to hear that our guide was able to bring the history and culture of Fukuoka's yatai to life for you. That deeper context is exactly what we hope every guest takes away. We'd love to welcome you back for more hidden gems of Fukuoka someday!
We’ve been on many food tours in the past. I really can’t figure out what the purpose of this one was. First of all the cultural part was not happening at all. Our tour guide was a delightful Japanese man, but did not have tour guide Level English capabilities. There was never going to be any discussion about culture. We walked around for 40 minutes trying to find a random Yetai (street stall) there wasn’t anything prearranged. We couldn’t figure out why we met at six if none of the stalls opened until 630 and we had to walk a half an hour to go to the area and then we tried three or four places before one worked for the guide. It turned out to be a nice Yetai but honestly, we could’ve done this all ourselves. There really was no value out here from paying it to our company to do this for us. So this one is a no go for us as far as recommending it to others.
Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback, and we're genuinely sorry the tour didn't deliver value for you. You've identified real issues we need to address. A guide whose English wasn't strong enough to deliver cultural context, and 40 minutes spent searching for seating — together, these undermined exactly what you paid us to provide. You're right that under those circumstances, the tour offered little beyond what you could have done yourselves. On the yatai scene, one small clarification: many stalls do open around 6:00 PM, which is why we set the meeting time then. However, the early evening is also when popular stalls fill up fastest, and finding seating for a group can take time. That said, this is something a skilled guide should navigate smoothly — with cultural storytelling along the way turning the walk itself into part of the experience. We fell short of that standard, and that's on us. We're making concrete changes: strengthening English-language and cultural training requirements for guides on this product, building relationships with specific stalls to improve seating flow, and setting clearer expectations for guests at booking about how the yatai scene actually works. Thank you for the honesty — feedback like this is what drives real improvement.
Had a wonderful time! Howard is very knowledgeable about Fukuoka and led me to yatai with delicious food, explaining all the options. We had time afterwards so we went on a little tour. All in all would recommend!
Thank you for the wonderful review! We're so glad Howard could share his knowledge of Fukuoka and guide you to just the right yatai. It's great to hear there was even time for a little extra exploration — that's the kind of flexible, personal experience we love to offer. We hope to see you again in Fukuoka!
The food stalls, which are hard to get into at first glance, were enjoyed like locals thanks to the guide! The tonkotsu ramen I ate at this hidden and famous restaurant in Nakasu is excellent. Drinking shoulder-to-shoulder with locals is a unique experience. I really recommend it to those who want to enjoy the night and food of Hakata!
