Our private tour of Kentuck Knob and Fallingwater with George DeBolt was fantastic and memorable. George is an enthusiastic and engaging guide with a wealth of knowledge about Frank Lloyd Wright and the history of the Pittsburgh area. He picked us up at our hotel right on time and his vehicle was clean and comfortable. He provided a great deal of information on the trip to and from the sites. (Just FYI, as George will inform you, you need to purchase tickets to the sites separately. George recommended the in-depth 90-minute tour of Fallingwater and he was absolutely right.). He got us to our destinations in plenty of time and even found a place for us to get a quick snack along the way. We learned a lot and were thoroughly entertained throughout the day. George is a terrific guide and cool person. This is the tour to take!
The two of us had a private tour with George. He is more than amazing, he makes the entire trip an unforgettable and satisfying experience. He picked us up at our hotel in Pittsburgh and drove us out to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. During the drive, he entertained and educated us in the historical background of the area to set the stage for our understanding and enjoyment of the sites. He knew as much about the Pittsburgh historical background as he did about the Frank Lloyd Wright homes and the families who lived in them. George is an amazing human being and knows more than you ever want to know, and you can ask him anything and get a satisfying answer. We have done many guided tours in the US and Europe, and George is one of the best we have experienced. Just as a heads up, George does not enter or act as a guide inside Fallingwater or Kentuck Knob - your tour tickets need to be booked separately through their websites. After getting George's advice on the phone, we booked a 9:30am interior tour of Fallingwater (approx. 90 min), followed by a 12 noon tour of the nearby Kentuck Knob (approx. 60 min). He picked us up at 7:45am and had us back to the hotel by 3:15pm for a very satisfying experience overall.
It’s best to visit the Knob’s house first, since then you’re going to get plenty of it in Fallingwater. Too bad we can’t take pictures in the first house, while in Fallingwater there is no problem. Suddenly the interest of the visit is less.
Excellent tour guide, very accommodating over timing and pick-up, and I learnt so much, especially - but not only - that Pittsburgh is a very coll city
Surrounded by fresh greenery, both Ochisuiso and Kentuck Knob were pleasant and wonderful spaces. The guide was very kind and had a great day!
My husband and I visited Fallingwater and if you are in the area don’t miss it. Frank Lloyd Wright built this getaway home for a rich business owner from Pittsburg. The setting is spectacular especially as we visited in October when all the trees were turning. The house is built over a waterfall in a rocky forested secluded area. You need to buy a timed entry and they sell out so make your reservation way ahead of time. You walk from the visitors center with a guide and tour the house. There is a great souvenir store in the visitors center and a small cafe. Driving there can be tricky so plot it out before hand and bring a printed copy because you will lose cell service and not have gps. GPS is not always accurate either! Read their website. It’s worth the trouble!
Had great time with George who had prepared a lot of information about Frank Lloyd Wright and Pittsburgh. He was very entertaining. Arrived in time for the tours at both houses and they were very thorough and interesting. Great to finally get to see these exceptional houses.
The Frank Lloyd Wright iconic architectural gem, Falling Water, lived up to the accolades. The building, setting and staff were all worth a 10 hour drive from Connecticut. In addition, family had visited in June with the recommendation to visit Kentuck Knob as well. We were happy to take their advice. Kentuck Knob has a different feel but has the same Wright integration with the landscape. If you go, please make the walk out to the knob hills and valley overlook. Spectacular view!
We had a wonderful day with George. George is really original and he entertained us throughout the day with great stories about Frank Lloyd Wright, Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania. We admire his knowledge and ability to convey it in an interesting and exciting way. He was equipped in the car with photos, plans and maps and told us the area and history of Fallingwater and Kentuckknob based on the documents. You can tell he really likes to do that. The car wasn't quite as great, but that didn't matter given the rest of the positive experience. We will always remember the tour, it was one of the funniest and nicest Things to do on our USA vacation.
George took us to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, and were happily educated and entertained for 8 hours! At first, we were a bit unsure of what to make of this gregarious older gentleman with an aging vehicle and worn binders full of pictures and information. But the bottom line is: George is a wonderful storyteller who deeply loves Pittsburgh and Frank Lloyd Wright and you'll learn more than you ever imagined. His enthusiasm is truly infectious. During the 90-minute drive to Fallingwater, we scarcely had a moment to look outside because George had us looking at maps and flipping pages of a binder as he regaled us with the story of Wright and the Kaufmanns and the genesis of Fallingwater. George also happens to know every single person who works at Fallingwater (and which chocolate bar they like best!) which absolutely benefitted us. My traveling companion had decided to join me in Pittsburgh at the last minute, and all Fallingwater tickets online were sold out. But George was able to speak to the front desk person and voila! Fortuitously, there was a cancellation and a ticket was found for my friend. I have no doubt that the staff made a special effort just for sweet George. The drive back to the city was just as fun and interactive and informative, except it was all about Pittsburgh, history to modern day. (George is also a great driver, and I felt safe the whole time.) Thanks for an unforgettable day, George!
