Du kommer att vara glada att få reda på varför klockan i alla kyrkor i Europa är direkt relaterad till Belgrad. Vilken sultan kallade Belgrads fästning sin kontemplationskulle. Vad hände när nazister bombade Belgrad 1941. Och vad hände när det var ett sovjetiskt invasionstrussel på 1950-talet. Gissa vilken filmtillverkare som berättade för pressen att han kände sig väldigt inspirerad efter att ha blivit underjordisk! Vi börjar med de gamla romarna och spåra de successiva krafterna som kämpade för denna jord, vatten och himmel. Varje steg tar dig förbi portarna och väggarna, fängelsehålorna och tornen. Varje syn är ett monument och minne om krig och fred, liv och död, rike och fall av imperier och människor som lämnade sitt varumärke i tid.
Utsikten från fästningen inkluderar floderna Sava och Donau, deras sammanflöde och två andra städer som tillhör Belgrad. Nya Belgrad, en gång huvudstad i Socialistiska Jugoslavien, och Zemun, en lugn centraleuropeisk plats. För romantikerna rekommenderar vi att schemalägga turen runt solnedgången. Solnedgången i Belgrad är omkring 17.30 på hösten, 16.30 på vintern, omkring 18.00 i april och maj och efter 19.00 på sommaren.

Ksenija Kastratović is a superb tour guide of Belgrade! Having grown up in Belgrade, traveled and returned, she is rich in knowledge of both culture and history. Our travel ran late and she offered to meet us at our hotel then waited for our arrival. She then asked us what we wanted most from our tour so she could customize it for us. We asked for culture and a history and received that and more- even a quick stop for local raspberry gelato! When we asked about her, she showed us the home her grandfather lived in during communism and socialism, where she later grew up in with her mother which gave us context as Americans. Her passion for her history and interest in us was genuine and thoughtful. Her nieces had drawn pictures for us which I still carry as we travel! Can’t recommend her more highly. What a lovely person!

One of the most exciting guided tours ever! Igor is a history buff passionate about sharing the stories of war and peace, sultans and kings, underground chambers..We saw the foundations of the medieval castle and the Roman wall and got inside a church that was built from a military magazine
