Efesos var den näst största staden i Romerska imperiet över 250.000 människor under 1: a f.Kr. Rankning bara bakom Rom var det den näst största staden i världen. Efesos var också en hamnstad. Och denna gigantiska stad byggdes bara med marbel. Visste du att Efesos hade den största amfiteatern i den forntida världen över 25.000 platser? Se också gudinnan Nike, lokalt apotek, Hadrianus port, biblioteket i Celcius (det tredje största biblioteket), Marbel Street och Harbour Street.
Temple of Artemis eller Artemision, även känd som Diana Temple, var ett grekiskt tempel tillägnad gudinnan Artemis. Det var beläget i Efesos och det var ett av världens sju underverk.
Bakom basilikan ligger Prytaneion, där religiösa ceremonier, officiella mottagningar och banketter hölls. Den heliga lågan som symboliserar Efesos hjärta hölls konstant tänd i Prytaneion. Byggnaden av byggnaden dateras till det 3:e århundradet f.Kr., under Lysimachos regeringstid, men ruinerna av komplexet dateras till augustitiden. Den fyrhörniga gropen där den heliga elden bränns är en relik från Lysimachos regeringstid. Byggnadens framsida är fyra kolonner, bortom kolonnerna finns en innergård omgiven av en portik, och i norr ligger byggnadens centrum, ceremonihallen och dess sidorum. Den eviga lågan fanns här i ceremonihallens centrum, den röda färgen på golvet avgjorde lågans placering. Mot baksidan fanns ett stort område med trätak, basen på ett altare känns igen än idag.
Ruinerna öster om basilikan tillhör Varius-badet, som dateras till den romerska perioden. Konstruktionen dateras till 200-talet e.Kr. och mosaikerna i den 40 meter långa korridoren är från 500-talet. Den är byggd av skurna block av marmor. Den har tre sektioner, frigidarium (kallt vatten), tepidarium (varmt vatten) och caldarium (varmt vatten). Utgrävningarna är inte avslutade ännu.
Polliofontänen låg söder om State Agora, tvärs över Odeon. Den byggdes år 97 e.Kr. av den rika Efesian C.S.Pollio och hans familj. Vattnet fördes till Efesos fontäner från tre huvudsakliga källor genom akvedukter och distribuerades från fontäner genom ett grensystem av bakade lerrör. Källorna var Kencherios (42 km) vid Kuşadası, byströmmen Marnas i Çamlık (15 km) och Caysterfloden (20 km). Staden fick gratis vatten i de offentliga fontänerna. De tillhandahöll också förfriskningar på varma sommardagar på gatorna.

Had a great experience. Cemal was an excellent tour guide and very kind to my 6yr old daughter. It was very appreciated that Cemal sped up the tour because it was so hot. Strongly suggest anyone going to Ephesus take and umbrella for shade and make sure to take fans and water with you.

Thank you for an excellent trip! Was very easy to arrange over WhatsApp after contacting Turkey Tours Company on their website. Pickup from our hotel was exactly at the time they said it would be. Erdem was a great tour guide - funny and knowledgeable, a good pace with just the right amount of information. He clearly knew his stuff and was passionate about the history - and really liked the cats too! Our tour group was small, much smaller than other groups in Ephesus, which was another positive. This company was not advertising at our hotel but one of the other guests recommended them and their prices were the most competitive. So I called them and said I just need to see the main historical parts in half a day as my child will loose interest in a whole day excursion. They organised a great little package to Ephesus with a lunch and a trip past the ruins of Artemis temple, the house of Our Lady and a little market shopping. Rep was really personable, knowledgable, multi lingual and had great cultural understanding. I have no hesitation in recommending this company.
