It definitely is the way to see The Eagle’s Nest. Claudio was a fabulous guide and gave us lots of tidbits of history that most likely none of us knew. We also saw where Hitler’s home was and the Tea House part way up the hill, which most people don’t get to see. So much information, good exercise and a comprehensive visit for the time we had. You do have to be in shape to a degree because there is an uphill climb up.
Claudio was excellent. Very nice and informative. However, we did not realize just how steep the four mile hike to Eagles Nest would be! Claudio did not rush us, but just be aware that if you are not used to exercise, this will be a serious challenge. In addition, the bus to return from the top (Eagles Nest) to the parking area is not included and is very expensive! Over 40 euros per person. On a positive note, Claudio met us at the bus station in Salzburg for no additional cost. This was helpful because we did not have to figure out which buses we needed to take.

Sorry to hear that you were surprised about the bus ticket riding down the mountain. When you book the tour you can see that the bus down the mountain is not included and that the actual cost is 25.10€. That said taking the bus is a quick a comfortable way to get down the mountain and it saves your legs for the next days. Had a fantastic hike with my wife up to the Eagle's Nest with Claudio. He was an excellent and extremely knowledgable guide. We were able to see things related to WWII history that you won't see on the bus trip to the top. The hike was good exercise, a consistent incline but definitely doable. Took us about 2 1/2 hours to get to the entrance to the elevator to the Nest. The views were spectacular and we were fortunate to have Claudio all to ourselves this particular day. This was the last thing we did on our week long trip to Switzerland and Austria and it was definitely a highlight. Book this tour if you want a more active way to get to the Eagle's Nest. You won't regret it.

This was an absolutely amazing experience that i am so glad we took! Claudio was beyond amazing! Kind, enthusiastic, and full of so much knowledge. We learned so much on this hike. The hike itself was hard, I’ll be honest. The last 2/3rds really took it out of us, but once we were to the top, we were so glad we did it!

Claudio is an excellent tour guide. His passion for history and communicating that to others in this platform is a perfect fit. We had to make some adjustments to the hike and Claudio was very flexible and accommodating! He even gave us a ride back to Salzburg and made sure we were on the right bus to our hotel!! My husband and I had an excellent experience on our guided hike to Eagle's Nest. Claudio is incredibly knowledgable and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with and learning from him. This hike was truly a once-in-a-lifetime way to experience the breathtaking beauty of the area as well as learn more about the history and impact of fascism during WWII. The hike itself is not too challenging, though it is uphill the whole way. There's time at the top to explore on your own as well before heading back down as a group, and we were able to time our tour to allow for some time at the Dokumentationszentrum Obersalzberg, which is also worth a visit. Claudio was kind enough to help us plan our way from Salzburg city centre and also picked us up at the train station in Berchtesgaden. The group size was nice and small (5 people total + Claudio) and it was nice to get to know the other folks in the group too. Would definitely recommend booking with Monkey Business Tours if you're in the area and wish to gain more insight on the area and the history as you explore!

Claudio is a likeable character and provides a niche product which is excellent. He gives you the big picture on Hitler and the rise of Nazism in its political and cultural context with many fascinating details about the local area including the ruins of the Berghof. You also have to be fit enough to walk 2400 feet but the path is very smooth and gradual. I’m 67 and managed it. Your reward is the spectacular visit to the Eagle’s nest with hopefully good weather to enjoy the view. You can truly say that you have immersed yourself in the environment.
This tour was amazing and worth every single penny! The group was just me, my wife, and Stephen, who is an excellent guide and genuinely passionate about the tour! He didn't generate excitement with some song and dance routine by making everyone embarrass themselves. He was a true gentlemen with a calm demeanor that eloquently pointed out historical facts and details that we watched other tour guides pass without a mention, all backed up with historical photos and videos he shows you on his iPad! (He also suggests taking photos periodically and works with you to get a good shot.) His delight in revealing the secret's of Obersalzberg to us and his incredibly deep knowledge and insight to the historical facts of the Eagle's Nest and the conclusions they imply generate more true excitement than any other tour I've experienced. It's great for everyone and it's especially great for history buffs. I cannot recommend this enough! My wife and I talked about it for several days and I've shared the fascinating things I learned with my brothers, who also found it interesting!
