Alfama är inte bara en av de äldsta och mest pittoreska stadsdelarna i Lissabon, utan var också en av de enda stadsdelarna som inte förstördes i jordbävningen 1755. Och så har staden fortfarande behållit sin pittoreska familjecharm. Faktum är att monikern för denna stadsdel kommer från det arabiska "Al-hamma" som betyder "heta fontäner" eller "bad". Inredda i vackra "azulejos" ger de branta slingrande gränderna i detta område plats för hisnande utsikt över ett hav av terrakottatak och floden Tejo. Dofterna av traditionell portugisisk mat, ekon av Fado-låtar och de äldre portugisiska lokalbefolkningen som pratar, allt gör detta område till ett av de mest autentiska i Lissabon! Great tour of Lisbon's old town giving highly detailed facts along with local tips and tricks. We were checked in on with stops also in the shade helping during peak heatwave. We were all involved and spoken to on an individual level also. Would highly recommend.

Good tour Natalia our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Note, there are a lot of stairs and uphill downhill walks. If this is a problem do not sign on for this tour

We paid a small amount to book the tour, however when we got there we were told the tour was free. We were then it informed to please tip the guide because she would have to pay her boss for the number of people on the tour.

On the Discover Lisbon website, the title is only "secrets of the old town". The website does not mention that this is a tour of Alfama. My friend and I booked both the Alfama and the Old Town tour, so we were disappointed to show up for our second tour and realize it was the same as the first. Please clarify this on the website!!!
This walking tour through Alfama was a nice way to learn the landscape. Luigi was our tour guide. He was pleasant and knowledgeable about the history of Lisbon. The walk is about 2 hours. It took us through the narrow and hidden streets, up a winding hill. The views are incredible! You also take a small break at the top of the hill where you can grab an espresso and pastel. There is also a bathroom available at the cafe. You get to see the local landmarks like the castle, the smallest bookstore in the world, and the oldest standing house in Lisbon.
