Diocletians palats är ett forntida palats som byggdes av den romerska kejsaren Diocletian i början av fjärde århundradet e.Kr., som idag utgör ungefär hälften av den gamla staden och centrum av Split, i Kroatien. Medan det kallas ett "palats" på grund av dess avsedda användning som pensionär för Diocletian, kan termen vara vilseledande eftersom strukturen är massiv och mer liknar en stor fästning: ungefär hälften var för Diocletians personliga användning, och resten inrymde militärgarnisonen. Försvinna i labyrintens gator i det 17-tal gamla Diocletians palats (stadens centrum och UNESCO: s världsarvslista). Från 40-talets gamla egyptiska sfinx till 20-talets byggnad kommer Split centrum att överväldiga dig. Upplev och njut av medborgarnas livsstil för lokalbefolkningen.
Peristyle, som slottets centrala torg, avsedd för kejsaren Diocletian som firas som den levande sonen till Jupiter, finner sin plats bland många tempel. På grund av sin unika skönhet och ovanliga akustik, blev Peistyle det ideala teaterlandskapet, perfekt för operaklassiker och antika litteraturverk, men också scenen där det rikliga stadslivet fortsätter.
Från den yttre rektangulära, och från den inre cirkulära markplanen för denna gamla imperialistiska domstol, lämnar Vestibule ett monumentalt intryck även i dag.
Diocletian Palace Substructures representerar ett av de bäst bevarade antika komplexen av sitt slag i världen, och är därför på många sätt ansvariga för att den historiska kärnan i Split 1979 ingick på UNESCO: s världsarvslista.
Porta septemtrionalis är deras romerska namn. Kejsaren Diocletian gick igenom dem när han gick in i slottet den 1 juni 305. De byggdes i form av en rektangel, med dubbla dörrar, som en del av den defensiva militära taktiken (propugnaculum).

Our guide, Slavko, was incredible for several reasons. First, it was super hot, so the Get Your Guide team moved the tour to later in the evening because of heat. Our phones were on airplane mode, so we missed the email completely. We got a little panicked when there were no others waiting for the tour and no "green umbrella"! But, Slavko showed up as we had not re-booked to make sure we had a tour. He did the tour despite the heat and having to redo the tour later! (We couldn't have done the later one anyway as we were on a cruise ship.) Next, Slavko was incredibly well informed, knowledgeable and passionate. As a native, he had some incredible insights and was super engaging. He pointed out all of the notable historic elements-Roman street construction, building materials and different structures, but he also some fun "Game of Thrones" trivia. He even had a shot on his phone of the scene from the movie (see photos). It was neat having our own really private tour and I commend Salvko for being so accommodating and conscientious. Totally recommend him as your guide! *Note, make sure someone in the group has an e-sim card or international plan so that you get important information!

This was a really interesting tour of the palace - we had a great guide who shared a lot of information about the place and local color as well. However, the tour we purchased was advertised to be 2 hours and it was about 80 minutes. It is also advertised to be a "small group" tour, but we had about 20 people. Not small at all. This didn't detract from the tour but you should know what you are getting for your money. If you want a small group that is more personal this is not it.

Very good small group guide (20 people) who explained and taught well. Would recommend. There was a small issue with meeting the group but overall a good experience!

A short tour allowed me having a sound understanding of the whole old town of Split. On top of a that, the tour guide also touched on details about locals. Highly recommend this tour.
Interesting and large palace area from the 2nd century. Well-preserved Roman building. Small alleys and small shops within the area.
We enjoyed touring with a local and early mourning in August was the best way to go. Very knowledgeable guide with a quirky sense of humor. We learned more than expected. Much recommended !
