På denna mest utsökta turné kommer du att ha chansen att prova den BÄSTA lokala maten från de BÄSTA försäljarna. Njut av aptitretande souvlaki, läckra och färska hemgjorda pajer, läckra oliver, PDO (Protected Designations of Origin) ostar, grekisk yoghurt, lokalt kallskuret, unika desserter och mycket mer ... låt oss inte förstöra allt det roliga! Vi kommer att promenera genom gatorna i Atens centrum medan vi besöker traditionella grekiska gatumatförsäljare; sanna atenska ikoner, familjeföretag i flera generationer och nya berömvärda matentreprenörer. Exempelmeny Söta och salta pajer som du aldrig kommer att glömma (t.ex. ostpaj, spenatpaj) Koulouri (rostad sesambrödsring) - Greklands favoritfrukost på flykt. det här runda brödet är fyllt med bra kolhydrater och proteiner. Mitropoleos Square är ett av de charmigaste torgen i Atens historiska centrum, bara några minuters promenad från Syntagmatorget och Plaka-distriktet. Torget domineras av den imponerande Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens (även känd som katedralen för bebådelsen), den största kyrkan i Aten och säte för ärkebiskopen av Grekland. Alldeles intill katedralen står den mycket mindre men lika fascinerande Lilla Metropolis (kyrkan Agios Eleftherios), en bysantinsk kyrka från 1100-talet känd för sina intrikata stenristningar och arkitektoniska detaljer. Kontrasten mellan storstadens katedrals storhet och den lilla metropolens intima skala illustrerar på ett vackert sätt lagren av Atens historia, från den bysantinska eran till det moderna Grekland. Idag är Mitropoleos Square en livlig mötesplats omgiven av kaféer, butiker och gågator, vilket gör det till en idealisk plats att pausa medan du utforskar centrala Aten.
Detta vackra och livliga torg brukade vara hemmet för stadens blomstermarknad. Bara ett par blomsterförsäljare finns kvar, eftersom resten har ersatts av kafébarer och matställen, och blivit en av de hetaste platserna i stan. Lätt att nå oavsett var du kommer ifrån, fristående och fridfull, utan besvärande genomfart, det myllrande torget kryllar av liv de flesta timmar på dygnet. Vi kommer att njuta av en speciell delikatess från Kreta, en paj utan dess like. Den heter Sfakiani och är tunn som crepe med mjuk ost inuti och honung på toppen! Exempelmeny: Rakomelo: Denna berömda alkoholhaltiga blanddryck är gjord genom att kombinera Raki (en druvsmaksatt konjak), med honung och varma kryddor som kardemumma, kanel och lokala örter.
Exempelmeny: Den ultimata grekiska street food desserten: Loukoumades, alias "honey puffs" på det bästa stället på 100 år. Aiolou-gatan är en historisk central asfalterad väg som förbinder Omonia-torget med Ermou-gatan. Dess namn kommer från den antika grekiska vindguden Aeolus. Aiolou-gatan byggdes 1833 och är en av de äldsta gatorna i Aten.
Besök den livliga öppna fisk- och köttmarknaden i staden! Exempelmeny: Souvlaki, vår nationella gatumat. Det finns hundratals Souvlaki-ställen, men en handfull riktigt bra. Vi tar dig till en av de mest läckra, autentiska och hyllade!
Exempelmeny: SUB (Protected Destination of Origin) Grekiska ostar, unika kötträtter som pastourma och Tsipouro. Mecka av Atens krydd- och örtbutiker. Små, familjeägda företag har varit livlinan på denna gata i decennier, vilket gör den till det första stoppet för alla matintresserade atenare. Den serveras som ett välkomnande till gästerna, ett ackompanjemang till meze eller som bränsle för skratt mellan gamla vänner på kaféer över hela Grekland.
Psyri eller Psiri är centralt, trendigt & okonventionellt! Det är ett färgstarkt neoklassiskt område känt för sina hantverkare, specialbutiker, restauranger, barer, tavernor (med eller utan livemusik), teatrar, konst- och antikaffärer, samt ett litet antal hotell.
Exempelmeny: grekisk honungsprovning. 3 distinkta läckra sorter. Kotzia-torget är omgivet av vackra nyklassicistiska byggnader, bland annat det gamla rådhuset. här finns också en liten arkeologisk plats (där du kan se stadens vattenförsörjningssystem som går tillbaka till 2000 år sedan) som nyligen har uppdagats efter utgrävningarna för den underjordiska parkeringen.
Beläget i skuggan av Akropolis, är stadsdelen Monastiraki en blandning av arkitektoniska stilar, epoker och kulturer, som ligger i anslutning till distrikten Psyri, Plaka och Thisio. Monastiraki-torget är ett av de mest förtrollande torgen i Aten, där det finns restauranger, kaféer, butiker, den berömda loppmarknaden och massor av antik historia. På torget kan du beundra den sjunkna kyrkan Pantanassa, den enda kvarvarande delen av klostret (eller snarare nunneklostret) som fanns på plats under den bysantinska perioden och gav området dess namn (Monastiraki betyder litet kloster). Men för många är Monastiraki mestadels synonymt med antikviteter och gamla skatter tack vare loppmarknaderna och antikaffärerna som sprider området mot Abessinientorget.

We arrived to Athens at 11:30 AM after an overnight flight. This food tour was the best activity to kick off our two night stay. Our hotel room was not ready and this was the perfect way to spend the afternoon tasting delicious Greek food and learning about the culture. Highly recommend Valentini as a guide, she was wonderful.

We had such a wonderful enjoyable late afternoon food tour with Valentini. She was so knowledgeable, and in addition to tasting local fare she provided us with the history of Athens. We loved our tour and Valentini was superb! Cant wait to go back to Athens!

Vanna (our guide) and this tour are AMAZING. We (group of 8 Canadian women 40-70 yo) spent the day walking the most popular districts, learning history with exceptional delivery and ate the BEST variety of Greek food from savoury to sweet. This was our first day (and time) to Greece, and what a great way to introduce oneself to the life, food and culture. Vanna introduced her world to us with clarity, professionalism and every once of character and charisma. Our trip will be unforgettable because of this tour. We booked this Athen Bites tour from Rhonda Zorman of Enjoy Life Vacations in the USA and what a find this was! And Valentina, just perfect for us! Valentina from Athen Bites was terrific, an absolute gem! This was one of the highlights welcoming us back to Athens after many years she guided us through a 1/2 day food journey through the streets and locale eateries blending incredible flavors with the authenticity of Greek food and culture. It felt like for us, like a knowledgeable friend guiding us around rather than being led by a tour guide. We never once felt rushed or overwhelmed everything flowed naturally. Valentina was enthusiastic, engaging, and very open to questions and conversation which really made this experience even more memorable.
