en befolkning på 50 000, expanderar Bishoftu snabbt. Det är platsen för flygvapenbasen och veterinärinstitutet. På en höjd av 1 900 meter har den ett varmare klimat än huvudstaden. Bougain villea, flamträd och frangipani lyser upp gatorna. Bishoftu ligger i en cirkel av fem krater sjöar och är en populär helgort för Addis Abebas invånare. Strax innan du kommer in i staden på höger sida av vägen (42 km från Addis) finns ett fruktjuicekafé där uppfriskande drycker av papaya, apelsin, jordgubbar och druvsaft samt färska frukter och grönsaker och vissa konserver, är till salu. Terrassen på denna lilla bar har utsikt över en grund sjö, Chalaklaka, som bildas av regnen, som regelbundet är matningsplatsen för cirka 100 000 flamingos. Huvudhotellet Hara ligger på kanten av den största kratern. Båtliv och vattenskidåkning är populära och det finns många fågelarter för den entusiastiska ornitologen - skarvar, pelikaner, grebes, shovellers, storks och en myriad av färgglada passiner . Fortsätt ner samma väg förbi Veterinärutbildningscentret och Experimental Station, du kommer till en ännu sötare sjö där uppdraget har sitt huvudkontor. Andra sjöar i området som är värda ett besök är Green Lake, känd för sitt fågelliv och sjön Bishoftu i söder.

My day with Gashaw & the team at walk-in Ethiopia was the highlight of my stay in Addis. They were prompt, knowledgeable, friendly and easy-going yet highly professional. As a solo female traveler, they made me feel right at home and I felt as if I were traveling with friends, not alone. I was also interested in trying a butchery shop for local food and they happily accommodated my interests. We had a really fun lunch, canoed in the lake and enjoyed the coffee ceremony. Gashaw sent me many recommendations for music as I requested. Fantastic. Absolutely worth spending the money.

These guys are efficient, friendly and very helpful. Our tour guide was a 23 year old chap Yosef. I was initially unsure about him. But by the time the tour was over, he had won me over completely. He was just the kind of person you want around you. He and the driver Abraham went out of their way to look after us, cater to our requests and keep us happy. They certainly went above and beyond what was expected of them. Their boss was very easy to contact over the phone and very easy to communicate with. I will have absolutely no hesitation in going with this company again or recommending them to others.
