Adadi Mariam / Tiya Stele Adadi Mariam Adadi Mariam är en underjordisk stenhuggen kyrka som liknar de i Lalibela. Denna kyrka är unik eftersom den är den sydligaste kyrkan i sitt slag och står ensam – inga andra stenhuggna kyrkor finns i området. Det har antagits att kung Lalibela beordrade byggandet av Adadi Mariam för hans besök i södra Etiopien. Platsen dateras till 1200-talet, men är fortfarande en aktiv plats för tillbedjan. Även om den dateras till ungefär samma tid som Tiya-stelorna och bara ligger ~30 km norr om dem, ger Adadi Mariam en stark kontrast till den hedniska auran vid Tiya.
Tiya Stele I närheten av Adadi Mariam-kyrkan finns Tiyas stela. Monumenten – 36 totalt – är resterna av en forntida etiopisk kultur, som är mellan 1 och 2 meter höga. Utgrävningar har avslöjat att platsen är en forntida kyrkogård, där det finns kvarlevor av både män och kvinnor, i åldern 18 till 30. Stelarna dateras till mellan 900- och 1400-talen och är täckta av symboler vars betydelse förblir okänd. Svärden och andra symboler huggna i berget är unika för dem själva; inga andra symboler av deras typ har upptäckts. Tiya är lättillgängligt från en huvudväg från Addis Abeba. Den har utnämnts till UNESCO:s världsarvslista och är relativt orörd av turism jämfört med andra delar av Etiopien. Sen eftermiddag kör vi tillbaka till Addis
På Melka Kuntures arkeologiska plats har vi en chans att se (nästan 2 miljoner år gamla) upptäckta fossil från förhistorisk ålder. Stenen i området är 1:5 miljoner år gammal

Amazing tour. Ashu is such a great guide, very knowledgeable and with such a positive attitude. Nothing was ever too much and he took the time to explain things to us. We felt very safe the whole time and count ourselves very lucky to have seen such amazing sites that not a lot of people get to see. We saw an ancient rock hewn church and a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage archeological site finished up by a tasting of some local brew - an experience in itself.
