Om det har stora tänder och smak på mänskligt kött, finns det en ganska god chans att det en gång kallades Colosseum Underground hem. Denna turné är vår mest omfattande och inkluderar tillgång till två begränsade områden i Colosseum, plus Palatine Hill och Roman Forum - alla med premium hoppa över linjen. De underjordiska kamrarna som vi ska utforska var inte bara för fruktansvärda gladiatorer - de innehöll också många av de vilda djuren som skickades in från hela Romerska riket: från bayerska brunbjörnar till syriska lejon.

Turnén kommer att börja med att hoppa över alla linjer och komma in genom VIP Arena-ingången och ta dig direkt till centrumet. På en stor dag med festligheter var detta 87x55m långa damm det gamla hjärta i Rom. Stäng ögonen medan du stod i mitten och du kan nästan höra de extatiska skålen och blodkärlande skrik från gamla dagar. Tack och lov kommer vi inte att behöva döda björnar, lejon eller gladiatorer medan vi är här (vi hoppas!). Förutom att vi står på Arena-golvet, kommer vi att gå runt Colosseum-ringarna, vilket ger dig tillgång till alla fantastiska vinklar som är möjliga på detta anmärkningsvärda stadion. Vi kommer sedan att gå ner under Colosseum golvet till det sagnomsuste undergunden. Detta skrämmande område var backstage till all död, gore och härlighet vi ser i filmerna. Det var här som oroliga unga män skulle spendera tid före och efter striden. Och det var här, bort från handlingen, att de skulle växa som människor - förändras, strid-för-strid, från vidögda ungdomar till de historiska böckernas gudliknande hjältar.
Efter en kort paus på 30 minuter tar vi oss till nästa stopp: Palatine Hill. Detta var den gräsiga toppen som Romulus sägs ha grundat staden Rom för nästan 3000 år sedan. Ingen överraskning då att de romerska kejsarna valde det som platsen för några av de finaste och mest spektakulära palats som den antika världen någonsin sett. De var så fina - i själva verket - att ordet Palace faktiskt är ett derivat av ordet Palatine. Attans! Den sista pinnen på vår resa kommer att vara Forum Romanum. The guides that took us around the colosseum and to the Palatine hill we’re very professional and did a great job. This tour however was not coordinated well because we were transitioned between two guides and there should have been someone from the company there for those transitions.
Very good guide. And very interesting tour. With a lot of information and views into the Ancient Rome
Hesitant to write this as I don't like leaving bad reviews. But I think it is important to share our experience. We booked a Colosseum tour including underground which was supposed to start 10:30 and last 3 hours. No guide at the meeting spot, when we called the company they had no record of our booking, even though we booked direct and received confirmation and reminder emails. The lady we spoke to on the phone was helpful and arranged us onto another tour, but this turned out to basically be a ticket tout tour selling off the street, was not great quality and only lasted 45 mins, no underground or arena included. We also waited on the street over an hour for the tour to start. Had to email twice to request a refund, they responded the second time. Initially offered 50% refund but quickly agreed to 100%, which in my opinion is only fair as we were sold a service we never received. So obviously very disappointed in what I thought was a great company based off reviews and recommendations. I understand mistakes happen from time to time, but it would have been nice to be immediately offered the full refund and an apology without question rather than having to chase it, given it was their mistake and we did not receive what we booked and paid for. Feel I can't rate more than 2 stars given our experience, but I am grateful the company agreed to refund us, and I do believe what happened to us was a rare mistake given the other glowing recommendations.

The guide was very knowledgeable about the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. He was able to paint a picture in order for us to gain a better understanding of what life might have been like.
Amanda was a spectacular tour guide. Very knowledgeable and thorough. We enjoyed her insights tremendously. Spend the extra money to see the floor of the arena. It’s well worth it!
The guide was extremely knowledgable, friendly and engaging. She made the tour interesting and we felt that we learned a lot. It was great to go down underneath the stage of the colosseum and we know not many people have been able to do this so it was pretty special! My only complaint is that the meeting location was changed and we were not informed which resulted in us waiting at the Colosseum entrance for the guide and the whole group (who were informed of the change) for 35 minutes. We also felt that we missed out on some history and explanations of some of the sights on the walk from the guides office to the tour entrance whilst we were waiting for the group to arrive as things were referred to during the tour that we hadn’t heard. We didn’t receive an apology from the guide for lateness or confusion either which was disappointing. The tour itself however we couldn’t fault!
Vasco was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable. We were on a small group tour which was perfect. The Colosseum and neighboring Palatine hill are rich with history. Well worth the time.
We made a reservation and paid for the Colosseum Tour with Underground Access well in advance of our early September trip to Rome. We received an email reminder from Carpe Diem the day before our scheduled tour. When we arrived, the guides had no record of our reservation and explained that they had no underground access tickets available that day. The guides tried unsuccessfully to find tickets for us from other companies. We were refunded in full but we're so disappointed we’ll never consider booking with Carpe Diem again.
My tour guide, Giulio, was AMAZING! He was filled with so much information on Ancient Rome and the colosseum. He answered all of our questions and was very funny and knowledgeable. What an amazing tour!
Russ / Bruce were awesome - they went out of the way to help find a last minute space for an underground tour (as we only had 2 days in Rome) . Tour was enjoyable, despite the amount of heat, and Bruce, our guide, was kind to find shaded areas to stop and share stories about the Colosseum's background. He was well versed in its history, story, and architeture.
