This was a disappointing tour on a few levels. First, the meeting place staff was not friendly. My family did three City Wonders tours in Rome and the same young age group of staff organized us (Pompeii and the Vatican). They were not friendly or approachable. Then when we got into our group each time someone was missing/ late so our group had to wait for the people to show up. Luckily once the start time passed we got to begin the tour even if the missing participants didn’t show up. Our tour guide for the coliseum was great. You could understand him and he was very knowledgeable—however—City Wonders grouped way too many people in each tour group and even with the vox boxes, it was chaotic. After we moved in from the Colosseum towards Pallatino Hill, we stopped for the bathroom and a fountain break. There were too many people who couldn’t find the tour guide. We waited twenty minutes and then the tour guide showed up and said he had people left behind in the colosseum that we had to wait for. My family and I finally gave up and turned in our vox box and left. The temperature was around 100 degrees that day and after the colosseum the guide said the tour could leave if they wanted to. I’ve never been in a tour when the guide actively said you could all leave. Shame on City Wonders for over packing the number in the tours. I also did the Vatican and there were 16 in that group/-which I thought was way too many for the size crowd touring the Vatican that morning. The colosseum had over twenty people in our tour and it was unmanageable. Had it been smaller sized, we wouldn’t have lost time or the guide and I would have been able to see the entire tour. Disappointing to say the least.

Our tour guide did not show up prepared. He was not dressed as was described in the the booking details, which made him difficult to find. He did not seem to know how many people should be in the group. He did not know that the booking information said we could see the Forum and Palentine Hill immediately after the Colosseum. This was problematic as the Forum closed at 7:00 and our tour of the Colosseum ended at 6:30. The guide, Scott, was very knowledge about the Colosseum.

Iman was an exceptional guide and provided us with an incredibly thorough tour of the Colosseum Arena Floor, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. He was very considerate of tour participants’ needs and was extremely patient. Our tour was blistering hot and he barely broke a sweat. This tour was totally worth the money spent and pushed a full 4 hours. We were exhausted at the end but very grateful for the knowledge shared and the unique experience offered.
Giorgio, our guide, was excellent. He was informative, helpful and kind. The day we visited was very hot and he routinely checked in on us to make sure we were okay and if we needed any water, bathroom or shade breaks. I also appreciated that he took the time to get to know us. Big thanks to Giorgio and CityWonders for a great experience.
Haitham was exceptional. Clearly knowledgable about what we were seeing, he also made sure we had historical context for everything we saw, allowing us to appreciate more fully the space and the sights. He also maintained a great pace while being mindful of the physical challenges some of the participants faced. Great tour made even better by Haitham!!
Hisam was a great guide with expert knowledge and kept a great pace. Consistently was checking on an older couple to make sure they were okay with the pace. Top notch
