Gangaramaya är ett av de äldsta buddhistiska templet i Colombo, som startades av den berömda forskare munken Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera i slutet av 1800-talet. Efter den ärevördiga Sri Sumangala, började hans högsta elev Devundera Sri Jinaratana Nayake Thera på administrationen av templet. Det var han som lagde grunden för att omvandla det lilla templet till ett institut för internationell beräkning. Nästa ledande befattningshavare var Ven. Devundara Keerthi Sri Sumangala Jinaratana Vacissara Thera, läraren av Ven. Galboda Gnanissara, som arbetade för att göra Gangaramaya vad det är idag: mycket mer än ett tempel på konventionell sikt, men en plats för dyrkan, en plats för lärande och ett kulturcentrum.
Byggnaden i neo-barockstil byggdes under den brittiska kolonialtiden för att hysa det lagstiftande rådet i Ceylon och var en uppfattning om Sir Henry McCallum. Detta ingick därefter i ett förslag från en kommitté för att bygga den nya byggnaden för sekretariatet, rådets kammare och regeringskontor på återställd mark vid norra änden av Galle Face, som godkändes av regeringen 1920.
Galle Face är en urbanpark med 5 hektar (12 hektar), som sträcker sig 500 meter längs kusten, i hjärtat av Colombo, Sri Lankas finans- och affärskapital. Promenaden lanserades ursprungligen 1859 av guvernör Sir Henry George Ward, även om den ursprungliga Galle Face Green sträckte sig över ett mycket större område än vad som ses idag. Galle Face Green användes ursprungligen för hästkapplöpning och som golfbana, men användes också för cricket, polo, fotboll, tennis och rugby.
Independence Memorial Hall (även Independence Commemoration Hall) är ett nationellt monument i Sri Lanka som byggdes för att hedra Sri Lankas oberoende från den brittiska regeln med återställandet av det fullständiga styransvaret till en Ceylonese-vald lagstiftare den 4 februari 1948. Det är ligger i Independence Square (tidigare Torrington Square) i kanelträdgårdarna, Colombo. Det finns också Independence Memorial Museum. Monumentet byggdes på den plats där den formella ceremonin markerade starten på självreglering, med öppnandet av det första parlamentet av HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester inträffade vid en speciell podium 4 februari 1948. Ligger vid monumentets huvud är statyn av den första premiärministern i landet Rt. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake "Nationens Fader". De flesta av de årliga nationella självständighetsdagen firandet har hållits här. Bortsett från ett monument tjänade det som den ceremoniella samlingshallen för senaten i Ceylon och representanthuset i Ceylon tills parlamentet flyttades till det nya parlamentets komplex. För närvarande är det platsen för religiösa händelser och årliga nationella fester.
Colombo-museet, som det kallades i början, grundades den 1 januari 1877. Den grundare var Sir William Henry Gregory, den brittiska guvernören i Ceylon (Sri Lanka) vid den tiden. Kungliga Asiatiska Samfundet (CB) var medverkan i att meddela Gregory om hans utnämning som guvernör 1872 behovet av ett offentligt museum med stor svårighet godkännande av lagstiftningsrådet skaffades inom ett år. Arkitekten för Public Works Department, J.G. Smither kunde förbereda planerna för ny struktur på italiensk arkitektonisk stil. Konstruktionen avslutades 1876 och museet började fungera det följande året. Museets myndigheter tog olika steg för att visa landets kulturella och naturarv för detta ändamål. Med utvecklingen av museet till internationell nivå, fick den status som ett nationellt museum under perioden P. P. P. Deraniyagala. Han kunde öppna grenmuseer i Jaffna, Kandy och Ratnapura och en fullvärdig avdelning för nationella museer grundades 1942 under lag nr 31. Utvidgningen av antalet grenmuseer har nu ökat till nio och dessutom ett skolvetenskapligt program och en mobilmuseumtjänst är också i drift.

Byggandet av Jami-Ul-Alfar-moskén inleddes år 1908 och byggnaden slutfördes 1909. Moskén beställdes av det lokala indiska muslimska samhället, baserat i Pettah, för att uppfylla sin nödvändiga fem gånger dagliga bön och Jummah på fredagar. Moskéens formgivare och byggare var Habibu Labbe Saibu Labbe (en okvalificerad arkitekt) och grundades på detaljer / bilder av indo-saraceniska strukturer som tillhandahålls av sydindiska handlare som beställde honom. Det är en hybrid stil av arkitektur, som drar element från indo-islamisk och indisk arkitektur, och kombinerar den med den gotiska väckelsen och nyklassiska stilar. Ursprungligen hade den kapacitet för 1 500 dyrkare, trots att endast omkring 500 var närvarande på böner. Det är en distinkt röd och vit godisstripad tvåvåningsbyggnad med ett klocktorn och påminner om Jamekmosken i Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (byggd 1910). Innan andra landmärken byggdes, hävdar vissa att Jami Ul-Alfar-moskén erkändes som Colombos landmärke av sjömän som närmar sig hamnen. 1975 köpte moskén med hjälp av Haji Omar Trust ett antal angränsande fastigheter och började bygga en expansion till moskén för att öka sin kapacitet till 10 000.

picture is beautiful but the street where it is main street very busy not to do with small children there are cars and a lot of tuk tuks driven and motorcycles you have to be very careful not to get hit

We rented a van for 6 people and had a wonderful day! Our guide Khan was so delightful! He was kind, polite, helpful, and knowledgeable . He took us to all the sites we wanted to see, and was with us every step of the way to help us or answer any questions we may have. The driver was great too and always made sure the motor and a/c were on when we got back into the van. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours before our tour, and he shared a photo of his beautiful baby girl with us. It was a truly memorable day.
We booked a van for 6 people and toured the sites and did some shopping as well. Our guide Khan was wonderful! He was charming, polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and stayed with us wherever we went to assist or answer any questions. The driver was great too. Whenever we came back to the van, he had already started it up so the a/c was flowing for our comfort. Khan's wife had just had a baby 12 hours earlier and he shared with us a photo of his beautiful little baby girl. He was a delight ,as was our entire day.

Really enjoyed our tour with Ferose who was an excellent guide. Saw a lot of Colombo in 3-4 hours and found it fascinating. A real mix of old and new.

2 Sisters, cruise ship delayed by hours and nothing stopped our guide Answer from meeting us as arranged, with a beaming smile and welcome, and an air-conditioned mini van for the 2 of us.. no crammed in taxis or tuktuks for us We set off for a slightly modified tour due to the ships changes, on a fun, laughter packed sightseeing afternoon. The sights were fab, assistance thoughtful and the best he could. Sometimes the language barrier got in the way but when I adjusted my fast Australian speech things were much better. We would recommend Kingfisher tours to any solo, group, family or couple.. Thanks

As I’m travelling solo and doing only a 20hrs connection in Sri Lanka, I had no time to waste, so I booked a guide from Kingfisher tours and they sent Ferose Masse to look after me. Ferose was extremely friendly and helpful, no words can describe how much he helped me throughout the entire day! First off, he picked me up at the airport 2 hrs prior the time we had arranged because my flight arrived early, drove me to a breakfast place, and as I had forgotten to take cash out, he lended me cash to spend during the day. From the breakky shop we went on to the Spice Garden experience, which is very nice, I learned a lot about what plants, herbs and natural medicine can do, after the quick tour around the plants we headed to the Elephant activity point, were I was able, for the first time ever, to see, wash, take photos etc of an elephant, what a magical moment!! Then we had lunch, which was provided by the company, the restaurant was very nice and lunch was plenty of options, all with extremely large portions! For last but no least, he drove me to Sigiriyu rock fortress, where I was able to experience one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen! After spending the entire day driving me around (lots and lots of driving), telling me about the culture, food, being very nice and friendly, Ferose dropped me off at the airport. I highly recommend Kingfisher tours, not only the driver spoke english, but the car was nice and tidy, I will definitely come back. They made the most of my day here! Thank you, Ferose!
