Our family had a wonderful 2-day tour with Elaine in Tokyo. She reached out before the tour to learn our interests and optimize the tour. On both tour days, she met us at our hotel and showed us how to use the public transit. During the tour, she provided excellent context and stories for each location and answered our many questions. She took and edited beautiful photos for us. Between and after the tour, she also provided recommendations for us to explore on our own. She was so positive and fun. Elaine was an incredible tour guide. We hope to do another Howzit tour next time we are in Japan. We highly recommend Howzit and Elaine!
Japan has been a dream travel destination for my husband and me. We booked with Howzit Japan for tours with locals in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. The first thing that drew me to them was the super helpful videos on you tube. It was amazing and maybe the best part of our trip. Every guide was so great about working with us to create an itinerary that was perfect. We had six hour tours in both Osaka and Tokyo and a four hour tour in Kyoto. Honestly I could have spent all day with our guides. They were full of information and interesting cultural tidbits I would have never thought to ask about and so patient with our never ending questions. Haruna set up our itinerary for Osaka but was ill. So Kota and Irina (I might not have spelled her name correctly) were our guides in Osaka. We had a great time and learned so much and got so many tips that our remaining days in Osaka were smooth and full of good food. We started our trip in Osaka so this tour really set the stage for the rest of our trip. Haruna built a perfect itinerary and Kota and Irina made it such a special day, we felt totally immersed in the Japanese culture. Yuri was our guide in Kyoto. She was amazing. We were staying an hour from Kyoto and she helped us build a tour that would maximize our time to see things and ended in a perfect place for us to continue to explore on our own before our next timed event. The places she picked fit our interests perfectly and she provided additional interesting information at every turn. It made it truly unforgettable. Ami was our guide in Tokyo. We felt a little overwhelmed when we first arrived in Shinjuku, Tokyo, because it was so different than the places we had been so far. Ami helped us feel right at home and scheduled an amazing day. She introduced us to the most amazing shop owner who could manipulate these linked sticks into a bunch of different shapes in the blink of an eye. I picked up little candies and treats for my kids to try (which they loved). She gave us a paper with a hand made design as a thank you and it's my favorite keepsake. With all the guides we got exactly what we wanted from our tour, even though I'm not sure I knew exactly what that was when I first booked with them. I highly recommend them and if your lucky enough to get any of our guides, you're guaranteed a great day.
Ami was our Howzit Japan guide today. The was our first tour of this trip. We found Howzit Japan on Instagram. They had excellent reviews, so we decided to gave them a try. Ami tailored our six hour day based on our requests and her planning was perfect! She planned everything including attractions, transportation and food. I can't emphasize enough how good her planning was for our family! She messaged us via WhatsApp prior to our arrival in Japan and once we arrived in Tokyo too. Ami's communication skills put us at ease and clearly stated the objectives for our day. Our tour started at our hotel. Ami was there at the agreed upon time and after introductions, we began our day. We have visited Japan on three prior occasions but Ami showed us Japan through her eyes and we saw things we never knew existed. It was a pleasure speaking with and getting to know Ami as we traveled in Tokyo and the surrounding areas. I cannot imagine a better tour guide than Ami. We are very pleased with her guidance and very highly recommend Howzit Japan for tours in Japan!
We have just had an amazing 6 hour tour with our incredible guide Ikumi from Howzit tours. We did this the day after we landed and all of us (we're a couple with 2 teens) were sleep deprived and a bit tired but Ikumi managed to energise all of us! She arranged a personalised itinerary with us via WhatsApp before we even flew to Japan and even asked us about our kids' preferences so she incorporated a section around anime and Pokémon for their benefit. Although we see that the reviews here are all extremely high we didn't imagine we'd have such a fun experience with such a patient and charming guide like Ikumi. Thank you Ikumi it was an unforgettable day for us!
The 6 hours Tokyo tour we did with Yu from Howzit Japan was great! Flexible and relaxed, while also organized and well-planned, our tour included some of the most memorable and special times of our trip. Very authentic local places and enriching experiences (especially at the Meiji Temple). Yu was so nice and answered all our questions about life in Japan, from guiding us in local protocol to sharing with us about living and working in Japan. Completely worth the time and money and would 100% want to do another tour with Yu if we return.
The private tour with Yu and Aiko was fantastic. We were picked up at our hotel and warmly welcomed. First stop was Yu's favorite shrine, Nezu Shrine. We had already visited some shrines on our trip and this one was really one of our favorites. A really lovely shrine, with its many Torii gates and a quiet atmosphere. Then we went to Yanaka Ginza. A very sweet street with many small local shops where you can try all kinds of things. There we also had a very delicious lunch in a small family Izakaya . Afterwards we continued to a beautiful park, the Kiyosumi Garden, which offers a mystical atmosphere especially in the rain and invites us to linger. Really worth a visit. In the end we went to Tsukishima in the famous Monja Street. Yu and Aiko asked us if we had ever eaten Monjayaki. We didn't at that point, we only knew Okonomiyaki. Well, Monjayaki doesn't look very appetizing at first glance, but we were promised it was very delicious. And what can you say, it was definitely very delicious. We had shared two savory and one sweet, laughed a lot and talked great. All in all, we learned a lot about the individual spots, we were told a lot and shown impressions of Tokyo that we probably never would have experienced on our own. Therefore, a big thank you again to Yu and Aiko for this wonderful experience, which made our first trip to Japan all the more beautiful.
If it is your first time in Japan this is a great way to find your feet and explore Tokyo. We were lucky to have Yu as our guide. Yu was very professional but she was also a lot of fun. She communicated well and listened to our needs and planned the day accordingly. Strongly recommend.
This review is long overdue for an amazing team of people who made my family’s first visit to Tokyo, Japan a very special and memorable experience. Yu Shinozuka and Yuki Shinke were our local trip guides. They planned a very well thought out and unique itinerary for us that allowed my family to experience Tokyo from a very special local’s perspective. Because of Yu & Yuki, Tokyo will always have a very special place in my heart. We will never forget Tokyo, and we will always cherish the wonderful memories Yu san and Yuki San created for us. I highly recommend this tour by awesome local. Arigato gozaimasu Yu and Yuki!
Howzit made our day in Tokyo exactly what we wanted. Between myself my wife and two teenage daughters we had very different must see lists. Howzit made it all possible. Yu was our Tokyo guide and she designed a tour exactly to our asks. She also was able to update the tour on the fly as we needed. I can’t tell you how much it helped us having a local friend navigate and translate. One of my daughters had a specific anime she was looking for and Yu found a special limited pop up. She also gave us great good suggestions after the tour. I would 100% book with Howzit again. We also booked a Kyoto tour with them which I will cover in my other review.
My wife had always wanted to explore the Golden Gai district of Shinjuku, but even as seasoned travelers in Japan it always felt a little intimidating. Ayumi was the perfect guide for our evening! She listened to what sort of experiences we were after, then took us to several places where we could really experience and savor both the food and the local culture of the Golden Gai and the Omoide Yokocho districts. Ayumi was very friendly and welcoming, and knowledgeable about the best places to go based on our interests and tastes. Thanks to her, we had a fun night filled with many wonderful memories!
