Adam was a very good guide, He took all the time to show us their way of life and customs, you can really tell he takes pride in his culture and what he does to help his own community. Great experience!
Adam was absolutely amazing! He shared so much about the local culture, food, language, and everyday life in such an engaging way. He even took us for a bit of shopping, and lunch was absolutely delicious. Adam’s sense of humor made the experience even better. This was an unforgettable trip, we’d do this tour again and again!
Thank you for your wonderful review. We’re thrilled to hear that Adam made your tour engaging and informative, sharing insights into local culture, food, language, and daily life. It’s great that you enjoyed the shopping stop, the delicious lunch, and Adam’s sense of humor, making the experience memorable. We appreciate your kind words and would be delighted to welcome you again for another tour.
Very poor. The hospital was more of a family planning clinic/maternity type check up clinic. Gentleman taking me round expected a donation. I had already paid a lot of money for this tour being a solo traveller. Witch doctor was a man sitting in a partly build house full of rhubbish. Parts of tour was enjoyable it just was not value for money.
I am glad I got to see a bit of everyday life in Zanzibar! I especially enjoyed the witch doctor visit (her herbal stream actually did help my chronic headache). The home cooked lunch was nice too. Abdul the guide lives in the village and is super chill and answered all my questions. Being some cash to donate/tip people in the village for their time. Only the doctor at the hospital was at all pushy about it (he was very pushy actually), no one else even asked. IMO as a foreigner visiting here we are in a position of privilege and should redistribute some of that privilege where we can, especially when people are taking the time to show us their life.
Wonderful tour to understand the culture and lives of the people. Achmec. Our driver was waiting for us at the port . Comfortable minivan with ac for the 90 min ride to village. Abdul was our guide and lead us on a walk around the village . Visiting mommas who showed us how they make rope from coconut shells that are buried in the sea. We didn’t see a witch doctor but saw a momma herbalist who was also a midwife. Since it was Ramadan no school. But Abdul gave us pencils to hand out to the children as we walked through. Their faces lit up! Final stop was the medical clinic . Since my wife and I are medical professionals we were very much interested in how they treated the locals. They do great work with limited resources. Lunch was at a local residence. Highly encourage this tour if you want a real experience.
A superb cultural visit! Accompanied by a guide who speaks very good French, this allowed us to know and understand the lifestyle of the inhabitants. The guide is great! He was very responsive in organizing our visit and very friendly during the excursion. He answered all our questions. An unforgettable moment that reminds us how different the riches are but just as beautiful!!
A very interessting way to see behind the scene! Definitly recommend to anyone who wants to see more than just boring hotels and also support local culture and people
I am very happy that you enjoyed and understand that this is one way of helping local communities in many ways.
We visited the village of NGONGA CAVE MUYUNI with a local NAS guide (mail: nasasha71@gmail.com) We were greeted by the village chief who accompanied us for nearly 2 hours explaining the customs and activities of the villagers. Crushing the rice to get flour, braiding string to make very resistant ropes, then the highlight of the visit, we attended a marbutage organized in a cave (impressive) Throughout the visit we were accompanied by very smiling children who wanted to have their picture taken. You must of course not forget to come with gifts for these children (clothes, bottles, toys, school supplies...) This visit allowed us to discover how people lived in this village. Poverty is obviously present, since small streets are mud, homes are clay huts, electricity and drinking water are not everywhere. You come out feeling weak, admiring these people. What an enrichment.
Local guide who lived in the village led a very interesting tour of his village, which included a visit with the village witch doctor who demonstrated an herbal cure for influenza. Enjoyed a curry chicken lunch in a private home. We were a group of 11 adults and everyone thought this tour was a high point of our Zanzibar experience. Highly recommended.
