My family of six took this tour on our last day in Budapest, and it ended up being our favorite experience of our entire two-week trip. George truly made us feel like family. Amazing food, wine, stories, and memories. The perfect way to end our trip. Egész!!
Our guide, George was awesome! We started at the central market and then down Vaci street. The Langos was delicious as was the chimney roll. Finished off for lunch with goulash. My husband is gluten intolerant and enjoyed the tour very much although a couple of items he couldn’t taste. Overall exceptional tour. We went back to the central market at the recommended locations for sausage and paprika. George was a great tour guide
George was a great guide to the foods of Budapest. He was personable and had great stories to tell. It was a cozy group of six and by the end we all got to know one another and were full and had more than enough alcohol ;)
George was great! He was informative, kept us well fed and quickly accommodated when we needed something. Also, unlike some food tours, I felt comfortably full when it was over! Thanks for the great time!
George was great. History was well explained and food was plentiful and excellent. Highly recommend.
My mother and I were visiting Budapest from Canada for a week, and had a wonderful time on this tour nearing the end of our stay. George was easily one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. George is a local, and you can tell how connected he is to the city. Throughout the tour he would run into friends/ acquaintances who would say hello, which we felt really highlighted just how kind and personable George is as a guide. We began at the Central Market Hall, where we sampled local cured meats, a variety of pickles and pickled vegetables and fruit, along with delicious sour cherry strudel. From there, we stopped for a local Hungarian beer and freshly made langos before heading over to a stand to grab fresh, warm chimney cake (that was delicious). We wrapped up at a small local restaurant where we enjoyed a tasting of Hungarian white, rose, and red wines alongside traditional goulash and a classic Hungarian dessert. Come hungry - we skipped breakfast and still left absolutely stuffed! The food tour itself was exceptionally well organized. Every vendor at the market and each restaurant was ready for our arrival, making the experience seamless from start to finish. George had a bag with him with napkins, toothpicks, hand sanitizer, truly anything we may need throughout the tour. George also brought us homemade palinka (very strong Hungarian liquor) that he and his grandfather had made together. It was such a thoughtful personal touch and a wonderful way to connect Hungarian culture with his own family history. Later, while we enjoyed traditional goulash, he also showed us photos of his own family making it. What truly set George apart, though, was the depth of his knowledge. Whether we asked random questions about Budapest’s architecture, wine, Hungarian history, etc., he always had thoughtful, detailed answers and provided the historical context of the region. He welcomed every question and clearly has a genuine passion for sharing his city. As an added bonus, George is fantastic at taking photos. He happily helped us capture some of our favourite pictures from our trip and knew what he was doing. By the end of the tour, we learned that George also leads other experiences, including truffle hunting with dogs in the Hungarian countryside. We wished we’d known that beforehand because we would have booked another tour with him without hesitation. I would also recommend reaching out to George to find out about other tours he provides in the area, as we wished we had known sooner! Thank you, George, for such an unforgettable day. Your knowledge, planning, charisma, storytelling, and genuine love for Budapest made this one of the highlights of our trip. We only wish we’d met you sooner as we would have happily booked all of our Budapest and Hungary tours with you.
George was a terrific tour guide. He took us to authentic Hungarian shops & restaurants. Come hungry! I would highly recommend.
Such a great experience! George and Paula were absolutely wonderful! Great food spots and delightful finds! Such a delightful couple of hours! Highly recommed this
This was Paula’s first time giving the tour and she was fantastic. This tour is must do for anybody that wants to try the Hungarian cuisine. The Central Market tastings of pickles, strudel and meats were amazing. They also took us to a non tourist place to try the langos with cold traditional beers. Finally, we went to an off the path non tourist restaurant for wine, goulash and Hungarian pancakes. I can’t say enough about Paula and George and the food tour. Must book.
This is by far one of my favorite food tours ever. George is so friendly and knowledgeable, and his food choices are absolutely delicious—local vendors paired with George’s historical and social stories made this a perfect day! Thank you!!!
