Med vår erfarna och licensierade guide börjar vi med en kort introduktionsföreläsning om Trinity College och dess historia från 1592 och framåt.... sedan beger vi oss in på universitetsområdet.
På Trinity College besöker vi The Book of Kells, en belyst manuskript evangeliebok som uppstod på 800-talet. Den anses vara en av Irlands största kulturskatter och anses allmänt vara ett exempel på ökonst. Boken är ett mästerverk av medeltida bookmaking och innehåller intrikata mönster, utarbetade bokstäver och färgglada illustrationer. Den består av fyra evangelier: Matteus, Markus, Lukas och Johannes, och är skriven på latin. Book of Kells är inrymt på Trinity College Library i Dublin, Irland, där den ses av miljontals besökare varje år.
Vi står utanför och passerar Bank of Ireland på College Green för ett tidigare och kanske mer ädelt exempel på repurposing i stadsbyggnaden. Att stå på trafikön på College Green och titta upp är svårt att inte bli imponerad. Säkert är detta den största bank du någonsin sett. Det finns en kunglig vapensköld. Statyer av Hibernia (det latinska namnet för Irland), trohet och handel. Och på marknivå, ett par kanoner. Och en vaktpostlåda. De är alla ledtrådar till den här byggnadens tidigare roll eftersom den, under de första 61 åren av sitt liv, var hem för de irländska parlamentshusen. År 1800 röstade dock det irländska parlamentet ut sig självt, och dess tidigare lokaler blev Bank of Irelands flaggskeppsfilial 1803. Det hade en fantastisk historia under dessa tider av kolonisation och uppror. Byggnaden var de första specialbyggda tvåkammarhusen i Europa (”tvåkammarhus” vilket innebar att den hade två ”kammare”: ett underhus och ett överhus.)
Ett sista historietal om Dublin - "Through The Ages" till Molly Malone-statyn ligger en kort bit från där du började på College Green och Trinity College. Molly Malone var en semihistorisk, semilegendarisk figur som hedrades i låten "Cockles and Mussels", en Dublinhymn. Ett utmärkt tillfälle för bilder av ditt besök.

Michael ( Mick) was a fantastic guide. Exceptional knowledge and extremely personable. He loves history and this town, and it shows. We took Book of Kells tour an dDublin Castle. Dublin Castle is closed to the public for an extended period. You might want to check before booking the tour. Instead, Mick invited us to St. James, which is a must-visit. No regrets about Dublin Castle, plenty of other things to see, and great recommendations from Mick.
Met with Mick out lot tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the history of Ireland and the Book of Kells. The book itself is very impressive in how precise the writing and the graphics appeared after all these years. It almost looks AI generated how clean and precise each line of script appears on the page. Mind-blowing if you think that they were only had writing with quills. The Long Hall library will be closing in 2027 for a 4-year restoration while they digitize the indexing of the millions of books that are on the shelves which were almost empty when we got there. Lucky not to have to wait 5 years to see it. Overall a wonderful experience and Mick was great tour guide! Thank you Mick!
Sites were incredible, but Noel the tour guide made it even more so. His knowledge of history combined with a fantastic sense of humor was the perfect welcome to Ireland. Highly recommend.
Noel was a great guide. Very personable and funny. I had relatively low expectations for the Book of Kells, thinking “it’s just an old book”, but the entire exhibit and structure of everything really brought home why it’s such a treasured artifact. We got lots of info on the battle for Irish independence, some great pub and restaurant recommendations and the Long Room at Trinity was a real treat.

Our guide was very kind. We knew it was all walking, and my husband can handle that but we stopped for long periods and just stood at most places, with no where to sit or move much. My husband made it but had we been able to sit anywhere at the talking points it would have been so much easier. No regrets we went. We did see and learn lots, but with my husband's back we just could have used more places to sit as we listened. With those without those limitations we certainly recommend this tour.

Good, comprehensive tour of the Book of Kells and Trinity College. Excellent, informed and personable tour kids with a keen knowledge of the history of the events associated with the tour and an ability to convey them interestingly and with humor when appropriate.

Seamus was an excellent tour guide! He took the time to learn about our interests and tailored the tour to make it feel more personal. He was energetic, patient, and took great photos for us.
