Our Guide canceled because of the heat. Even though France had been experiencing a heat wave, the morning was much cooler. Our tour was in the morning and it was certainly not too hot. We were emailed the night before, but I did not check my email until I realized that our guide was not meeting us. Unfortunately, all self guided tours were sold out for the day. We bought a ticket for the gardens and spent a great morning looking around outsidethe palace. Still trying to get a refund.
The palace is quite outstanding- especially the gold roofline - amazing. The gardens are also fabulous , brilliant fountains. The big let down was the interior ' 3 or 4 fabulous rooms but too many people to see anything properly and too many rooms that contained nothing but paintings - most of whom are unknown to anyone but an expert in French history - it would be better to just do the outside & gardens and leave the rest to the imagination & TV shows! As an aside, there are brilliant cycle ways all over France and all around the Palace - the web site says they positively encourage cyclists- however, there's nowhere to safely secure a decent bike - pretty crap!
The visit to the palace was great - however buying tickets this was was very stressful. I was not emailed the tickets just a voucher that was not a valid ticket. No one was available to help and it was only pure persistence that I found the tickets located in contact the provider section of trip advisor app - not emailed as stated. It was confusing and we also had to abandon the trip as the email link received only kept going back to a barcode - don;t understand why they just weren't emailed as stated.
Excellent experience from beginning to end. The tickets worked perfectly, and we were able to enjoy the palace without any stress. The Hall of Mirrors was absolutely spectacular, and the gardens seemed endless. Versailles is a must-see attraction, and this booking made the visit very convenient.
