It was a wonderful experience to be in the water so close to the sea lions on Palomino Island. My wife Nancy was very, very happy and she does not know how to swim. Many thanks to our guide Sebastian and to our captain, Mr. Segundo. A special greeting to Mr. Eduardo (owner) who told me all about how this company, Mar Adentro Excursiones, began. Seeing Palomino island was neat but the water was so rough that many folks including myself got terribly seasick which took away from the enjoyment. I wish there had been a bit more warning about that before booking. Also the sea lions did not come off the island much and really didn’t swim with my family so that was frustrating given we paid to swim with the sea lions. Guides were very nice, though.

Sea conditions can vary considerably from day to day, and unfortunately, we cannot predict exactly how rough the sea will be. We understand that this can be especially difficult for passengers who are sensitive to motion sickness, and we appreciate your feedback about providing clearer information before the tour. Regarding the sea lions, they are wild animals and their behavior is completely unpredictable. On some days they are very active and approach swimmers closely, while on other days they may remain closer to the islands and not interact as much. We never want to guarantee an interaction that depends on the animals’ natural behavior. We’re sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations, and we truly appreciate your feedback. Swimming with the sea lions was a great Lima, Peru adventure for us. The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, a lot of fun! I would highly recommend this excursion with this company!

It was nice we swam with the sea lions who are very curious and cute but there was also jellyfish and we got stung

Awesome day. We took a boat and saw the old prison, quite a few penguins and swam with hundreds of seals who were quite friendly and came right up to us.

Overall, this is a neat experience! Our guides were wonderful. There were big waves, so it was difficult to interact with the sea lions, but they are so cute and curious! If you get sea sick, make sure you go on a calm day, and if you have trouble with strong smells, this may not be for you.

Great experience BUTTT READ first: Pros: - the history tour - the views of the surrounding islands - whale sightings if lucky like us - best views of Lima Cons - huge waves that will make most sea sick. - the foul smell from the bird poop on the islands is very bad. - they didnt provide goggles or snorkel gear. We were the ONLY people on our boat to see underwater because we actually brought our own luckily. Why they wouldnt provide goggles to all guests is beyond me. Great tour just come preparred.

Regarding the waves, unfortunately, sea conditions are completely beyond our control and can vary from day to day. The strong smell around the islands is also a natural part of visiting a protected natural reserve, home to thousands of sea lions and seabirds. As for the equipment, our activity is a sea lion swimming experience, not a snorkeling or diving tour. For this reason, we provide wetsuits and life jackets, but we do not provide snorkeling masks or goggles. Guests are always welcome to bring their own if they wish to have a better view underwater.
