1782 flyttade kung Rama I huvudstaden från Thonburi över floden till Bangkok och byggde Grand Palace intill Wat Pho. 1788 beordrade han byggandet och renoveringen på den gamla tempelplatsen i Wat Pho, som då hade blivit förfallen. Platsen, som var myrig och ojämn, tömdes och fylldes innan byggandet påbörjades. Under konstruktionen inledde Rama I också ett projekt för att ta bort Buddha-bilder från övergivna tempel i Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, liksom andra platser i Thailand, och många av dessa Buddha-bilder hölls vid Wat Pho. Dessa inkluderar resterna av en enorm Buddha-bild från Ayuthayas Wat Phra Si Sanphet förstördes av burmeserna 1767 och dessa införlivades i en chedi i komplexet. Ombyggnaden tog över sju år att slutföra. År 1801, tolv år efter att arbetet påbörjades, byttes det nya tempelkomplexet till Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklavas.
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan är ett buddhistiskt tempel (wat) i Bangkok Yai-distriktet i Bangkok, Thailand, på Thonburi västra stranden av floden Chao Phraya. Templet har sitt namn från den hinduiska guden Aruna, ofta personifierad som strålningen av den stigande solen. Wat Arun är bland de mest kända av Thailands landmärke. Morgonens första ljus reflekteras från templets yta med pärlskänd iriscens. Även om templet hade funnits sedan åtminstone sjuttonhundratalet, byggdes dess distinkta prang (spiror) i början av 1800-talet under kung Rama II.

Great tours and great guide A must-do
Everything was excellent. Our guide, Mina is great
This was a great way to explore the temples. Our guide (Sunny) was really good and kept things moving at a good pace. Our tour included a tuk tuk ride and boat ride together with walking. Just to note that this is a reasonably long tour (5 ish hours) and does not include a food stop). Having said that, a number of people, that had not read the information sent, did request a stop for lunch and our guide accommodated this (with the buy in of all participants) and took us to a local eatery where the food was very good and very inexpensive. We particularly liked Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha). Our guide was also very good at making sure everyone was able to get back to their hotels. Just to note, this tour does not end where it starts but the end location is right at a taxi station, tuk tuk station and the underground/metro. We would highly recommend this tour.

It was just the two of us on a personal tour. I was also very familiar with Japanese history and it was easy to understand the explanation while comparing with Thailand
